We have always treated our maids like family.

But we do purchase stuff separately for her like sugar, jam, biscuits because of differing tastes. The other reason is because they/she tend to use quite a lot of sugar and butter, I cannot afford to stock up on Lurpak butter or brown sugar for her. I also cannot afford to let her use the Nespresso cuz she drinks up to 3 cups of coffee sometimes!! So I get her the Nescafe.

As it is, as an example, she consumes the homemade bread most of the time but I am not complaining. Other than that, she eats everything we eat on the dinner table, including cod fish and salmon.

I don't think that buying separately for the maid entails her being regarded as a pariah. One needs to look at the bigger scheme of things.

      My 2 cents 😄

We are similar. I buy 3-in-1 coffee for my maid as she is the only one who drinks it. Other than that she will eat whatever we eat unless it is something she doesn't like in which case she usually eats something left over from the previous meal.

She will help herself to a biscuit or something in the afternoon or when she is giving the children a snack. If myself or my mother-in-law buy cakes, buns or that kind of thing we will usually buy for her as well.

      :hi5:

She is also allowed to choose what she wants to order regardless whether we are at a food court or at a high end restaurant.

I think for food most of the family members will not mind sharing food. I don’t think S’porean employers are "ke pou". My Chinese Han Yu pin ying is terrible. I hope you know what I mean.

I haven’t come across any friends I know of that starve their maid. So sometimes I do doubt what maid say about not having enough to eat.

I have to say though that this is my 2nd maid. I am not counting the earlier ones as they stayed for less than 3 mths. The one before this stayed for 4 years and left to get married. She trained this one before leaving.

However, although she has a calm temperament, doesn't show black face and is obedient, her hygiene needs to be improved and she lacks initiative on most accounts, meaning after 1 mth plus, there are still many things I need to remind her of. She has white lied a few times which I am working upon now. This one, I have to watch her like a hawk, do double and triple checking, either verbally or physically when it comes to her work.

I am not inclined to return her to the agency because she likes my boys and treat them well. As for her white lies and hygiene, I am working on them by trying to understand her psych. I will share my experiences when I have the time. I am looking at the bigger picture, if I get a replacement, she may not take to my boys and may have demands. So far, this one is
quite reticent. But, I will have to wait until after her 3 months loan is up to see if she shows me her true colours. 🙏

            Not all.

This is from the horses' mouth.

My MIL's tuition student was so amazed that she (the maid) ate together with us. He commented that in his house, most of the time their maids eat leftovers or maggie.

I am not here on a crusade to defend maids. I have had problems with them too. But rather, I am saying it as I see it.

            My 2 cents 😄

Also please note all maids are different. Example like my current indo maid who pray 5 times a day will not eat anything that has no HALah certification. This means all my seasoning are HALah and the chicken must also be HALah if not she won’t eat! Sometimes I forgot and buy the wrong type of chicken. Does this mean I m a employer that starve maid???!! So I really think must understand and hear from employer before listening to the maid.

This is an open forum. A place for sharing views, even if they happen to be alternative. Have I been mistaken??

I do believe I am allowed to share my views respectfully. I did mention this came from the horses’ mouth. Their maid was Filipino. I should have included the second statement earlier. My apologies.

This is exactly the reason why I have AVOIDED posting in here in the past.

Also, please read the last statement in my previous post again.

There is nothing wrong with your comment. It’s just that I feel we should hear both sides of the story.

Anyway, now I wonder if my maid will go around telling people I don’t give her meat to eat and purposely left out the part that she will not eat non HALah food.
Even my sugar is HALah. She will also say some prayer during cooking. All my Muslim friends feel very safe eating at my Hse.
I think Philip maid is easier but I do know of some who eat BBQ pork !!!

I don’t really have an idea what my maid eats.

I don’t specially supply food like peanut butter, kaya, coffee etc. to her but my hubby recently told me he is buying a separate brand of green tea for my maid because she will drink it quite frequently and the brand which we like is more expensive hence the "segregation".
But she is free to help herself to any food & drinks we stock up in the fridge, snacks in the cupboard, bread and whatever cooked food we buy.

We all too consciously do not eat pork liow. We also got to follow halal esp. chicken! Oh yes, we do consciously stock up chicken hotdog for her when we are buying pork bockwurst whenever we want to eat sausage dinner!

Nowadays she will cook her own type of food for lunch whenever she feels like it. Like fried ikan billis with chilli which she will store for herself and we don’t eat. It is ok with us I really don’t bother…
