        My son can say few sentences like \"I dun wan\", I want X pls\" \"see you tomorrow\" \"bye bye X\" & etc .. Think 3 -4 words sentences.

SLT at hbp will be end of May already . I. Trouble u to find notes .. Now I work on his response n engagement w us.. This week he is very engage w us. I'm so happy .. If we din pay attention to his share interest he will bring the toys infront of us and show it to us. After he poopoo he will say \"change diaper\"

So much thing just this week..

Are ASD LEARNs in straight straight one ?

At last eipic visit, the therapist say some can read a book but just blindly read n may not understand what the book says
3-4 word sentences already a very good start.

since you are seeing SLT end May, the professionals can assess and see which areas to focus on. in the meantime, perhaps you may want to consider building his vocabulary, cos vocab is the building blocks for speech and language.

some key areas that we started off with are:

        1. colors
start with basic ones like red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple, black, white. as he progresses you can do the others like pink, brown, dark blue, light blue etc.

        2. shapes
basic ones: square, rectangle, circle, triangle, oval. then progress to more advanced ones like diamond, half-circle, crescent etc ... (but i recall you child can say hexagon?)

        3. animals
farm animals: cow, pig, horse, sheep, dog, cat etc. also teach the sounds that the animals make.
zoo animals: tiger, lion, zebra, giaraffe etc.

        4. fruits
the most basic ones like apple, orange, banana, grapes and relate to the colors.

        5. food
name the usual food that he likes: french fries, burger, hot dog, bread, biscuits etc.

you can use flash cards or picture puzzles to teach. Popular and ToysRus have a lot of such stuff. can also get educational toys such as 'my first word' books and those toys for shape fitting, farm animal models etc.

usually we will have desktop learning which is repetitive in nature. eg. you show the child a flash card of 'red', and say 'red', then get the child to repeat after you. do it a few times. try to make it fun for desk learning by improvising into games.

then start to apply to daily life, eg. if you see something red, point out to him and say the word 'red', and try to get him to say the word too.

again i dont know what is your child's level, but if he has already mastered the above, then you can teach items in themes like in the home (living room, bedroom, kitchen), in the supermarket, library, garden, school, etc. and concepts like opposites. there are more advanced things like action words and prepositions but these can come later.

need to qualify that I am no professional 😄 but these were what we did at the beginning. do be patient, and take breaks in between learning. also negotiate with giving him things that he likes if he completes his tasks.

hope this helps as a beginning to cover you in the interim until you see the SLT. its quite brief for a start, if you need more information, i can see how to help.

CCK EIPIC. I don't know how long I should wait. The social worker has not called me yet.

He will smile at me if he is happy. He will point to me since he still can't talk properly. If I sing, If you are happy and you know it, clap your hand. He will clap his hands.

I ask him to kiss me, he will kiss me.

            Ladies,

Did you bring your kid to hearing test? My son got appointment for hearing test. He need to sit still for one hour. I am wondering whether he will sit quietly for one hour. I dont want to choose another option to test while putting him to sleep. Which option do you choose for your kid’s hearing test?

Can anyone kindly advise where to buy ice cream mould? I have tried Bishan NTUC Finest and AMK NTUC Extra, however they do not sell.

Need to bring popsicle ice cream on this Fri for my girl speech therapy. Commercial popsicle ice cream usually contains casein, gluten, colourings, preservatives, addictives, sugar, hence I’m not comfortable buying those from outside.

Yes. We didn't have any issues. There are toys to play there. Don't worry, they do hearing tests for kids everyday. They should know how to handle.

Yup I have the same worries as you. But my kid did well during the hearing test. Keep telling him that the doctors/nurses going to check his ears.

Your kid is now K1 or K2? Did you ask what is the problem with your kid? ASD or just slow development?

                        Re: comprehension

My boy did a comprehension ex in sch. The passage was about a family at the beach, two went cycling, mother was reading a book etc. Then while cycling, they saw a lost dog. One of the question was, what could the title be for this comprehension. Option 1 is a day at the beach. Option 2 is how the Tan family adopted a dog.

My boy chose 2. Well, he isn’t totally wrong right? It could well have ended with the Tan family adopting the dog…
