she0407:
[,\"] is the correct answer for the question above. This is because the direct speech is followed by the phrase 'she lamented'.Punctuation Q.
\"It's your fault, Joseph! You have a habit of pressing the snooze button every time (14) Joel lamented, resenting the fact that he had to share the alarm clock with his brother. Answer is [,\"]
I have not learnt this during my school days and I simply don't understand why it is not [.\"].
Can anyone explains why we use the above?
Thank you very much.
For example, you can compare and contrast the following:
1) \"We are going to school now,\" said Lily.
2) Lily said, \"We are going to school now.\"
The second sentence is ended by [.\"] as nothing comes after the direct speech.
Hope this helps. -

1) John was a lazy boy. He failed his test again.
a) As a result of John's laziness, he failed his test again.
b) As a result of his laziness, John failed his test again

a) The sight of his neighbour's house on fire stunned Sam.

Which is correct? a or b?
I feel that for both questions, both a and b are correct? The name is just mentioned once in each sentence so there is no redundancy. -

'my sister and me' are the object in the sentence, that's why 'me' is used rather than 'I'.Which is correct?
1) My parents gave my sister and me a handsome reward.
2) My parents gave my sister and I a handsome reward.
Answer provided : (1) is correct. Is this how it's interpreted?
My parents gave my sister a handsome reward.
My parents gave me a handsome reward.
==> hence, the answer is \"My parents gave my sister and me a handsome reward\"?
Thanks.
Let me give examples to compare and contrast again:
1) My sister and I received a reward from our parents.
2) Our parents gave my sister and me a reward.
In the first sentence, 'my sister and I' is the subject of the sentence so 'I' is used rather than 'me'.
Hope this helps

This question tests you on converting indirect speech back to direct speech (sort of like reverse engineering).
The sentence \"Mary asked Mrs Lee if they were going to Batam during the school holidays.\" is an indirect or reported speech, and you have to write the direct speech version.
So, you change \"they\" back to \"we\" and \"were\" back to \"are\".
