MMM:
Hi MMM,Actually.... P5 is going to be worse. I realised that P5 to P4 is a significant jump. I am wondering how my p4 ds is going to cope with P5 next year. Even my P5 dd is drowned by loads of homework. Many a times, we realised that after doing those homework, there is not much time left for exam revision.... She still has 1 stack of SA1 top school papers to do and tomorrow is the last paper.
I also realised that foundation building is indeed important. If the foundation is weak, the building will eventually collapse. So it's crucial to build a strong foundation from young. Unless the child suddenly kai qiao and start to be self motivated and work hard, otherwise don't expect miracles.
It's actually scary as in my p4 ds's class, there are some students who will actually fail most if not all subjects and they are only P4. I really cannot imagine what will happen in P5.
:thankyou: for the sharing..especially so that your children age gap is 1 year apart and you are experiencing and going thru the motion with them :salute: :salute:
I found the following article quite appropriate to what we are discussing now:-
Beware the critical years in math education …

SA1 very hard and we didn't try super duper qns for maths.today T gave two super duper qns for hw.tomorrow mt exam.I tried don't know how to do.never do before.I asked my son t taught this type of qns.He said no.I posted the qns here. This time my son feel hard to think of that the fractions or the section c qns. :sad:His school gave a pile of hw in the last weak.he tired a lot.now he can't think.
Hello smartmummy :hugs:
SA1 will somehow be more difficult and challenging for our children as it covers more topics. For P4 Mathematical problem solving, DD1's T did mention, \"It is central to mathematics learning. It involves the acquisition and application of mathematics concepts and skills in a wide range of situations, including non-routine, open-ended and real-world problems.\"
Yes, it is definitely a good channel that if you face any questions, you can post the questions here in the KSP forum and many expertises out there will be able to assist you :celebrate:
Let your DS has a break and maybe walk around in the neighbourhood for 15 minutes...take his mind off revision...But definitely NO no for longer play in the playground! -
I totally agree with letting the child have some relax time.
Maybe you can teach your child time management.
eg, 2 hrs for homework. 1 hr for revision and if time permits, let them play for 1 hr.
My girl doesn’t have tuition so she would have an extra 1.5hr.
I told her that if she’s able to revise her work for 1hr and she’s free to do whatever she wants for 1 hr.
It really works and she will co-operates and finishes her work on time cos she knows that she can play if she’s able to finish her work.
Initially I was struggling with letting her go for tuition or not, cos she has always been the top scorer in P1 and P2. (286/300)
When she embarked to P3 last year, her marks dropped from 95+ to 80 for all subjects.
I was shocked and didn’t know what to do. I went round sourcing for information and eventually decided to wait and see the situation.
So far so good, her overall results for SA2 last year was quite good, scoring 90+
As for CA1 this year, she scored 44/50 for English, 45/50 for Math, 47/50 for MT and 40/50 for Science.
As usual, I will just wait and see how the results goes for SA1 before making any further decision.
I know it can very depressing at certain times, hang on and think positively, everything is going to be fine.
Don’t give up hope cos our children needs us to be there to give them support. -
Hi yvetan2020!
same here! If I didn’t strict he always running out of the room while we studying. He has no concentration.Today after school we went to Mcdonalds and have a meal and ice cream. Then came home. Then I started revision at about 6pm.Then I didn’t allow him to run.He has a habbit always want to run.He always wasting his time in the evening then wake up in the morning early to do homework. So in the evening he feels sleepy. Finally exam going to over. Two more days to go. -
