All about Transferring to Other Primary Schools
-
Hi,
I am just wondering if let’s say the child is already in a top class in the current school, is it worthwhile to transfer the child to another more popular school and not sure whether the child will be a top student there ? -
Hi I need some advice from experienced parents here about school transfers.
My older girl is in P1 in BTPS and is rather happy there. She is an average student so far that I can see and she does not have any extra CCA or enrichment taken that she can ‘offer’ to MGS. I wanted to enrol in MGS last year but since I stay 1-2km and have no affiliation whatsoever, I gave up. Was also balloted out of CHIJ OLQP in phase 2C too as I was out of 2km : (
I have another gal registering this year for P1 in 2013. I was wondering if I should try to transfer my older child to MGS and see what happens and let my younger gal start BTPS next year first? I know that there is again no way I will be able to enrol my no. 2 in MGS this year.
Do you think I should just give up on MGS and just stay with BTPS? -

Hiya,
Yes, I am sorry that we are not Singaporeans. Singapore is however kind enough to open its door for me to come and work. But I have kids. I had no idea how hard it is even for the local Singaporean to apply for their ‘local’ schools, let alone a foreigner like me.
Is there any expat kiasu parents out there who had this experience of transferring their children 's school from overseas to local schools? How many schools do you choose to put your children on the waiting list? We are coming soon this year and we are stil in limbo as to how to choose the location for our accommodation.

I would suggest you secure a place at BTPS for your DD2 first and apply for Transfer with MGS for both daughters once you receive the confirmation slip from BTPS for DD2. There have been ballots at MGS Phase 2C within 1km for many years but 2012 may surprise us all with the new Singaporeans priority over PR ruling. Monitor the situation at Phase 2C and decide if the odds are favourable to you to try your luck. Do note that your DD2 will lose her BTPS spot should you succeed/fail at MGS ballot.
All the best! :xedfingers: -
We were offered a place in St Margaret Pri Sch today for our gal to transfer in July. However, we are in a delimma due to the travelling distance. We are staying in Clementi and she is currently staying in Pei Tong Pri.
Next worry is the enrollment of our 2 boys to another primary schools in the next 1-2 yrs time.
Is the school academically better for my gal?
Any advice from parents if we should take up the chance? Thanks. -
Anthealee:
If your girl transfers out of Pei Tong, her younger brother will qualify to register in phase 2A2 (instead of phase 1) for Pei Tong.

Though not as guaranteed as phase 1, phase 2A2 is still considered a sure thing since there hasn't been any balloting for 2A2 for the past several years. -

Hi, yes agree. 1'm also not so worried about the enrollment for Pei Tong as my hubby used to study there.
The main concern is whether SMPS will be a better choice in terms of academic if compared to PT.We also hope to send the boys to a boy school if
possible.
