Yes, compo writing starts from P1 Term 2, same as last yr for my son. It should be reflected on the Term's Assessment Schedule, together with mastery tests and other assessments like Show & Tell, Reading etc. There is no marks but is based on rubrics system, same for Show & Tell, Reading, then convert to certain weightage of the percentage allocated for the term (e.g. 30% of the term's 25% etc).
Hi Timtim, thks for yr info. I hv confirmed this with my girl's FT that they will be doing more comp writing n group writing after holiday. More tougher than the 1st n 2nd terms. So she was asking whether my girl attends any tuition regarding creative writing. I am searching for one but long waiting list.
How's abt Chinese compo writing? Will they start fr P1 onwards? Hopefully not otherwise I will be :faint: .
Last yr not so much writing, and we were complaining school didn't place enough attention to this area, but this yr seems tempo is higher, probably they suddenly see the \"need\" to let the students write more.
Don't worry about chinese writing. Until now in P2, they still have no compo writing and mastery test still no comprehension (not even MCQ type!). I would say the standard for chinese pretty low which I am quite surprised. Probably majority of students are still very weak in chinese so school has to slow down the pace.
slow down the pace?.. that is a good one.
P1 and 2 still in honeymoon, when you come to P3, u will be surprise of the jump and P4, you might faint... :slapshead:
with the recent SA1 exam, I can see that the school is trying to make the students really crack their brain and probably rising the school standard.
this is of course good but how much the teachers prepare the students?
this is a big question. At the end, some students get depress and disheartened when their results drop from 90+ to 80 or 70+.
it really depends on the teachers. How much effort they put in and want the students to achieve?
I have teachers who give out books for revision when the exam is the next day!!
parents, how do you find this SA1 exam for your kids? -
My son drops from band 1 to band 2 for his maths. Honestly, I went thru the maths paper. I think it has too many questions rather than difficult ones.
It is a wake up call for me that my son has pretty poor time management. -
Hi p6 parents,
Anyone of your kids found the math paper tough? My girl cried and said she found it tough but her friends said it was easy. I am now away for business but worried when she called me to tell me this. I feel a bit helpless overseas now…anyone can help me with this? Like how the std of the paper was? -
My girl in P2, so far she is doing fine with her Maths paper.
If there anything that worry me, its her careless mistakes that caused points to drop. Otherwise, I compare the test questions with revision file, its look quite safe if revision is done. My views may not be applicable to higher level students.
Btw, we received the pink carbon form for Primary 1 registration for 2013 batch. For everyone infor in case your child hasn’t pass to you.
Regards. -

from my experience for lower primary, revising on the revision file is ok.My girl in P2, so far she is doing fine with her Maths paper.

as u move up, they have challenging questions.
My child drop from band 1 to band 2 this year as well.
Yes, for sure needs to brush up but I think teachers should go through challenging questions as well. Do already dun mark, then how to know if got mistake?
unlucky to have lazy teachers this year :stupid:
last year teachers were very good.. -

I agree teachers play a part but I don't bet on them alone. As parents, we should do our parts regardless. With a class of 30, they can only do so much within curriculum time. Class will get bigger in upper pri when 10 classes becomes 8 classes. Ultimately, to me, if kids are not born smart or haven't \"kai qiao\", then \"practice makes perfect\", there's no short-cut. That's what I always remind my son.

There is a regression in my girl’s 2nd term result as compared to 1st term. The paper seems to be quite difficult for a P1 student as per my view. Lots of careless mistakes made. According to my girl, no time to chk thru the paper especially
Math. Their textbk n file were kept in school and hence difficult to do revision prior to the tests. I don’t think currently P1 n 2 are having any honeymoon period. -
Definitely had a shock in terms of workload n Chinese compo n its oral requirements at p3.
In fact, I had feedback to Chinese tr on the huge gap of making really simple sentences in 2nd semester of p2 to writing flowery compo based on 4 pictures ( sometimes last 1 is blank!) or a required sentence, weekly zhouji from 1st term of p3. Ds was so ill equiped that he could spend the entire Sat on it. Ended up needed lots of our help n ate into family time.
Guess bcos his was the 1st batch of rubic assessment? Perhaps sch is fine-tuning. P1 & 2 now?
Rr SA preparation, his science tr distributed answer keys on the day b4 exam 4 parents to mark n suoervise the corrections -
Not sure whether my girl is stressed in terms of workload or she is still in midst of adaptation, she complained sick and went to General Office for five times in consecutive 2 weeks. I hv to go down to school to fetch her home at least 3 times in the past 2 weeks. I'm not sure whether this will \"mark\" by her teacher as she has been missing some of her classes. I hv talked to her numerous time over the phone but she juz refused to return to her class and kept crying. When I signed on the early departure bk, I realized that there are lots of cases with similar \"illness\" as my girl.
Hopefully she is okay after holiday....

Honest speaking, when I did a comparision between my elder son SA1 paper when he was in p2 and my p2 daughter’s mastery paper,I felt that the paper actually got easier.
My girl said the same things when she tried to take her brother SA1 papers.
But for upper primary SA1 papers, they are different stories.
The practice papers (usually school past year papers) are much easier than the actual SA1 papers although it is still on par with top school exam papers.
In my opinion, the school is trying to slow down the lower primary so as to build stronger fountation while driving the upper primary by setting tougher questions.
