I bought the cloze practice from Big...now that's closed down, I have no idea where to buy. Past year papers by schools or PSLE 5 years series can be used to practise comprehension OE.janet_lee88:
Get my boy to practise his cloze published by Ace. You can find it at Big Bookshop. It's very plain and cover is flimsy.
Janet, thanks for reply. Where can I get the the cloze passage by Ace? from Popular? The past year papers you mentioned are PSLE past year papers or top-school past year papers? Thanks. -

Hi champion, thanks for replying on my behalf.
Hi nz, I am using Ace cloze (PSLE) as well as synthesis & transformation. Son’s school teacher ordered Ace Science process skills for them since last year. I do not find it that helpful though. -

There are some very good FREE test paper assessment manuals on this link for P1 to P6 for Maths, English and Science.

Hihi,
Just like to have some thoughts on the use of English assessment books for Kindergarten kids to get them ready for P1….I have this thinking that unlike for Maths, it is not really necessary for them to practice much of English assessment books, rather the time for doing English assessment books would be much better off spent on reading books instead. Of course for mid-upper Primary levels, there are more technicalities involved and by then, it may be a different story then…But for now, other than reading and practicing some handwriting (which can be much improved…), we haven’t really touched on any English assessment books yet…. -

I reckon at K1/K2 stage, it is not easy for them to complete the English assessment books, not to mention they may be tired after a whole day's CC/Kindy plus short attention span at this age...Hihi,

I hv learnt my lesson after buying so many assessmt books for my kid and didnt use/complete them... (or have I?.. I seem to be hearing voices from Popular Fair chanting \"cheap books, cheap books..\".. :faint: )
Agree that reading is more important at their age. I was planning to intro more grammar/vocab/proper sentence structure at a later stage to my DS.. perhaps using both assessment book as well as readers (eg grammar readers) at e same time to reinforce their usage so that hopefully he wont be bored just writing and writing on the assessmt book.. :rahrah: -
I agree with you iLove Chubby.
My son (5year old) can’t even read the instructions fully…its very difficult for him to sit doen and do himself especially English.
So how to develop this? -
Hi Ran1977
Same here, my DS needs our help in reading the instructions.
Not able to read simple instructions means that their reading/interpretion ability is still not there yet - so still have to bounce back to lots of reading & listening…
Maybe can start with simple books with minimal instructions e.g. Kumon series (altho pretty repetitive). -

This I agree. Reading is more important than getting assessment books done.Hihi,

The grammar and vocab will be instilled and reinforced than pure doing of assessment. I am getting my gal in P2 to read story books which we adults once read, like Grimm, Hans Christian. I admit i neglected her in this area.
