Means Maris Stella, St Nicks, Cat High also can? Cos those are full schools too. Their Primary section goes on holiday at the same time as Secondary section. Which is 3 weeks earlier than others for this year!

I should think so. For MGS and SCGS, I am very sure because I know of ex Sec girls who got their daughters in the Pri school under Phase 2A.
Actually this does not apply to just full schools, some schools like St Andrews Pri also accept students whose parents were from SASS under Phase 2A.

No harm calling up the school to enquire.

        Hello Everyone,

I am new in singapore , a PR , from India & have some questions regarding primary education in singapore.

My daughter is 2006 born, & i am interested that she taking up Hindi as mother tongue as it is recognised as NTIL. If she takes up hindi as mother tongue, then in most cases she will have to go & attend classes on saturdays in one of Hindi Language centres. Unless she attends a school which offers a Parallel Hindi program, in which case her saturdays will be free.

I am staying in Hougang area just in the vicinity of Hougang Primary, YCK primary & between 1-2 Kms of rosyth school. but none of these schools are covered in Parallel hindi program!
the nearest school that is covered in compassvale primary which comes in 2-3 km distance (& i have no chance there unless i do PV). now there are 3 possible scenarios

        1. I do PV in CVPS, complete it & get a place there for my daughter & she takes up hindi.

        2. she doesnt get through CVPS, we admit in one of the neighbourhood schools & she takes up hindi classes on saturdays.

        3. She gets admission in schools in the vicintiy & she takes up mandarin as MT!!!! ( we can get her Pvt hindi lessons, once she is higher primary , so she becomes trilingual!)

        my queries are.

        1. how important is the MT in PSLE,?

        2. does anyone has any idea how children from non chinese families fare in PSLE if they take up Mandarin as mother tongue.

        3. How good are the private chinese tutors in the event that she takes up chinese in school & needs help in studies. ( which she will !!))

        4. anyone has any idea about CVPS, how good is the school as compared to Hougang primary & YCK primary , ( no i am not trying for rosyth). its a new school so any one got first or second hand ideas about the school.
is it worth trying for CVPS?

        :?

please help to solve my dilemma.

From past record, NYPS does not have balloting for phase 2B. That does not mean that they have a shortage of PVs. Instead, it means that they are very selective of their PVs, and they don't take in more PVs than they have places for. So even if you do move to within 1km, there is no guarantee you will be selected for PV.

            😒[/quote]Hi,

I would like to understand what does it means by very selective of their PVs? Does it means that they screen throu' the parents background and profession? Or the child capability before they select their PVs. Thank you.

              hi mum2princess,

Not sure what exactly they consider (I heard some schools' PV are mostly made up of professionals), but I heard schools tend to place priority on ability to commit time - so SAHMs tend to be very popular; and of course skillsets (if they are looking for some type of project to be done).

Well, they definitely screened their PVs for suitability, but sorry I don't know what selection criteria they have.

Hi I am a newbie to kaisuparents.com. πŸ˜„ Almost fainted when I read all the forum discussions on Pri 1 preparation.

My ds1 is born in 2004 and entering Pri 1 in 2011...I'm now worrying about which primary sch to register him.
                    My choices:
Nan Chiau Primary (cos my husband is an old boy)
Concern: we live in Serangoon and Nan Chiau is a 40 min bus ride away. Both of us are working, so we will depend on my mil to bring my son to school, also dun wish to have son waste time on school bus. Anyone living in serangoon and have children going to Nan Chiau?

Yangzheng Primary (10 min walk away)
Concern: not as \"famous\" a school as Nan Chiau? I am not sure, cos after surfing the school websites of Nan Chiau and Yangzheng, Nan Chiau's results are of cos better. But not sure of school facilities...

will appreciate any advice. Thank you! πŸ™

                      Hi Greggymum,

It'll be best if you could visit both schools to see how comfy you are with the facilities, and even the environment. Talk to your neighbours, the neighbourhood gossips, I'm sure they may be able to offer some light into YZ school.

Your hubby being an old boy will confirm be able to get in, so consider carefully if you want to give up this chance. Nan Chiau is one of the more 'famous' SG schools and is under of the SHHK umbrella, so there will inevitably be some emphasis on Chinese (if your child hates chinese, another factor for/against). It is affiliated to NC Sec school so there may be some lightening of load when it comes to Sec School selection.

If you select Yangzheng, and if you are not a PV, you will have to evaluate what your chances are of getting into that school. If you fail at phase 2C, it's likely your child may be posted to an unpopular school that may be a distance away.

There is a pri school very near to where I stay, but even my neighbour (whose child was there) told me NOT to go there....so I am not even considering it. I feel that the school environment, culture and history is more important that just distance - but this is up to individual.

                        Hi hquek,

                        thanks for the advice! πŸ˜„

Actually I have already been to YZ primary to take a look around, the school's a little small, but gives a cosy feeling. Also due to its size, it is not going to be single session anytime soon. Anyone care to comment on the benefits of single session school?

Just to confirm, i checked out Nan Chiau Primary , and dun think it is affiliated to NC sec school. But my hubby being an old boy really gives the assurance of securing a place in Pri 1 registration. So now my only consideration is the distance ...will make a trip there one day and find out. BTW anyone knows when do Primary schools have open house?
