For comprehension, it's best to use passages in past year papers. They are more 'real' compared to assessment books.

You can trust our dearest Champion here to upload pics for easy reference 😉 Get my boy to practise his cloze published by Ace. You can find it at Big Bookshop. It's very plain and cover is flimsy.

so sad, Big Bookshop in Clementi closed down.

There is another bookshop opening on 1/6 at the same venue. \"Clementi Book Centre\".

          Hihi,

Just like to have some thoughts on the use of English assessment books for Kindergarten kids to get them ready for P1….I have this thinking that unlike for Maths, it is not really necessary for them to practice much of English assessment books, rather the time for doing English assessment books would be much better off spent on reading books instead.

This I agree. Reading is more important than getting assessment books done.
The grammar and vocab will be instilled and reinforced than pure doing of assessment. I am getting my gal in P2 to read story books which we adults once read, like Grimm, Hans Christian. I admit i neglected her in this area.

If kid doesn't read, is it a good idea to throw assessment to them. My ds doesn't read book. Basically he really doesn't like at all. He will rather sit And dream than reading. So I rather seeing him do assessment than sitting on the study table and dream. Sigh

I think that one is \"Clementi Bookstore\", this one may be a different operator.

                Hi new user,

My son is exactly like that...when I asked him to read, he will hold the book and dream. Great now he is suffering the effects of not reading...comprehension OE is weak. I cut out articles from newspaper for him to read. Make him highlight the grammar and check meanings of words.
When he reads a book, he literally skips the lines

I threw assessment books for him to practise. No choice...from grammar, vocab, comprehension & synthesis.

Be careful which book you buy. I bought one from Popular – it has a purple cover with a blue vertical strip and a marching band person (can’t remember if it’s boy or girl).

My daughter and I found tons of mistakes throughout the book. Grammar, spelling, punctuation – you name it, the book has it. These mistakes are in the questions, they’re not things the students are supposed to correct.

Could you please care to share which book? Then we will be more careful when we see that particular book. Thank you
