It’ll be my 1st time going to West USA in early June with 2 kids (4 & 9 yrs old).


The tour agency has offered the 4 optional tours below :

1) San Fran bay cruise (US$27/adult, US$17/child)
2) Las Vegas nite tour w dinner (US$45/pax)
3) Grand canyon - Helicopter/pontoon boat (US$205/pax)
4) Grand canyon Skywalk glass bridge (US$35/pax)

Which of the above is/are recommended?

Tour 1,2&3 are recommended....

Tour 4 is like a repeat of 3....

if you take the stop over flights, it is manageable, further more, it is on A380 on SIA, very comfy

We are bringing my dd1 (P5 this year) to US via frankfurt. I took the direct flight and is currently in the US. Dh and her will be flying over to join me after my meeting.

In fact they are leaving this friday. Initially we tried to redeem miles for her. We waitlisted for a couple of weeks and we couldn't get saver tickets and had to get standard. However I only have enough miles for 1 way standard + 1 way saver. So I ended up buying a 1 way for her. It cost us S$2100 (1 way + redemption + taxes). Without redemption, the return ticket is around S$2700 per child. Adult is around S$3200. Maybe the fare is higher during school hols or maybe the date we are looking at is popular ????

However, we observed that the earlier you book, the cheaper it cost. It was poor planning on our part as dh suddenly came up with this brilliant idea to bring her along after we had confirmed our plans. He had redeemed his ticket. Otherwise, we should have let her use the redemption ticket while he pays for his ticket so he can earn 25000 miles......... :stupid: .

So if you are looking at this school hols, plan early.

On kids' travel, we have 3 kids. It so happen that no. 2 is away in China for some school immersion programme. So he cannot go. We also have a no. 3 who is P1. We are not bringing her. From our perspective (family support aside), I think she would probably ask a thousand/ million \"are we there yet?\" before she finally arrive in JFK. This probably adds stress to us. The longest flight she did so far was 8 hours. Also, I felt that she might not be able to appreciate those sights as much unlike my P5 who is independent and I am sure seeing those sights is going to be a good exposure for her.

Hi there,


Am planning to travel to US in oct, on a free and easy trip.

Hoping to drive around.Some places have in mind are san francisco, LA, Lake tahoe, disneyland and las vagas.

Anyone has itinary to share, cos we hope to move around via gps.thanks

San Fran is a gorgeous city, and reasonably easy to get around, so you might not really need a car whilst there. If you are into wines, take a drive up to Napa valley or Sonoma county, really scenic, and great wines, of course. You can also see the Giant Redwoods in a few parks north of SF. Lake Tahoe is also very pleasant. LV is a real hoot! Well worth a few days. Catch a Cirque de Soleil (there are a few, I recommend 'O'). If you want a little more adventure, Grand Canyon is reachable from LV. I've not been to the southern parts of California though.

Los Angeles is also a very nice place I've been to Los Angeles and Las Vegas in December 2010.

Food there is cheap (WTH! One tub of Ben&Jerry's ice cream cost like SGD$11+, in America its only USD$1.95!), delicious (You'll be surprised. Nothing there tastes bad) etc.

Grand Canyon is pretty amazing but dangerous at the same time. My family wanted to go up there but because of the annual deaths, we were quite afraid and didn't go up, though we did enter Arizona.

If you are a rice-loving person and you cannot live without rice, then beware. I kinda got mad over rice when I went there but I could not find any.

Usually just spend the day there, eating burgers and fries (well you know, the authentic western kind of food)

Also, on the way from LA to Las Vegas, you will pass by Death Valley. You might want to go and visit Death Valley (though it is really damn hot and dry there!)

In Death Valley there are the \"moving rocks\" and many other geographical wonders. But well, if you cannot be bothered by such things (like me XD) then you can skip that.

There are many Asian eateries around U S - Jap & Thai are not difficult to find so no problems with getting noodles or rice. We never had that issue.

Noodles are easy to find, go to a food court and order some \"authentic\" Orange Chicken Chinese Chow Mein.


Rice is quite hard to find when I went there Even the \"authentic\" Chinese stalls ONLY SELL NOODLES!!!!!
