Jennifer:
since it has happened, your neighbour can look at the bright side. her boy will probably be top in class next year. can get prize some more. For all parents of next year P1 at Pei Hwa, my advice is do not take semester 1 as the honeymoon period IF you are concerned about which class your child will get streamed into P2.
A neighbour who regarded semester 1 as honeymoon kindy days got a shock now that she knows semester 1 and semester 2 exams combined results meant her bright boy is streamed into Kindness. Her boy actually scored near 100 for SA2.
anyway, they will stream him \"correctly\" from p2 to p3. i know of a boy who jumps from pa2 to gr3.

Btw, can someone enlighten me how the kids are banded in this school? :? According to his/her std position? Or just the EL/Maths scores? Jennifer mentioned about mixed ability classes, hence are kids only banded top and bottom few classes with the rest mixed and shuffled into various classes in between? TIA!

i think they band according to the position in the whole level. eg: if you are in the top 40, you go to Charity and so on. -

Jennifer mentioned about mixed ability classes,
oops, I wanted to mention middle ability classes, not mixed ability class. -
hi , anybody can advise? my girl has promoted to Peace 2 next year. She is very sad as she said that Peace is a poor graded class. Is it true? How should i advise her to cheer up. She got very bad results for her SA1, all 60+ but she did improve for her SA2, all 80+. :

That's the disadvantage of banding the kids.
I think your daughter has superb improvements, jumping from 60+ to 80+. That is very commendable!!!
Well, tell your girl, this is not the end, just the beginning. There are lots of chances for her to move upwards for years to come. My child comes from a neighbourhood school with no banding from p1 to p2 then when she comes to PHPPS, she starts to hear pple telling her which are good classes, which are not. I told her, good class or not, is not important. As long as she is in a 'right' class, hence, to be in that 'right' class, she just need to try her best. Even when best effort is put in, there is no guarantee to be in the front few classes, but whats the big deal? There is still a long way to go. Most importantly, enjoy school, enjoy studies, enjoy childhood, then she will have energy to go far. -
hi⦠what are Colour Awards for PHPPS?

Hi, you can read my post at 18 Nov 2009 21:27, if it is of any comfort to her. but she improved a lot from SA1 to SA2. did she win the best progress pupil prize? -
I was at the sch bookshop this afternoon to collect my set of pre-order books.
First :x have not packed, so our little friend (think relatives /children of the bookshop operators) went around picking the books.
Second :x only 1 Q. After serving a parent, the "cashier" walked away, leaving the payment counter cum the only Q unattended. No one came to take up her position. All other parents stood outside the room. I called to our little friend and told him to give me back my booklist if no one wants to collect payment. Then someone came.
Aiyo, I feel like writing a letter to the bookshop to advise them how to run the business.
