      Hi smartmummy,

When I was young, I always did lots of assessment books, and saved the past year papers for before the CA and SA exams. For me at least, I found assessment books crucial in exam preparation because they can drill concepts in effectively.
Another really useful habit I found is to read through very quickly the mistakes in all the subject files at least 2-3 times to know what kind of questions we tend to get wrong, and what the correct ways of thinking are. This will allow the kid to internalise common mistakes and remember not to make them again in the future.
      Cheers 🙂

        Hi linkit!

        Thanks for ur reply.
For Sci, do u study all qns in the assessment books? Sci is a wider subject and one exam got two or three themes.it's very difficult to memorize the concepts and answering techniques. I don't want to put unnecessary load on my son's shoulder.
I agree for other subjects , assessment books will help.
Good point have to find out which mistakes they tend to do. :thankyou:

          Hi

Can someone recomend some assessment book with questions more based on experiment conducted. Like "What you observed?", "What is your conclusion ?" based on the experiement they specify.

          Thanks

My daughter is in p3. The questions are really difficult to answer. I can sometimes find the answers in some of the science books we bought from Popular, but never from the books her school uses!

If I can’t find the answer in our books, I have to Google. How will my child be able to answer these questions in school, where she has no additional resources to refer to?

googling may not be a solution... cos answers may be too deep for them to understand... also, keywords may not be used so best thing is to hv a good tutor or teacher where u can chk for correct answers..

its good to buy a good sci guide (i have plenty at home) and go thru the chapters with ur dc… just read them together like a book… i took turns with them to read out, say i read 1 page and he read 1 page… so we learn them together…

do this during the holidays… for specific concepts, stop reading and share some real life experience or give examples so that they hv a headstart even before sch reopens…

That’s a great idea verykiasumummy. I told my daughter to read a science book bought from Popular like a storybook, but she doesn’t want to because it has too many words. I told her I used to do that when I was young and it helped me in my studies, but she still doesn’t want to do it.

I never thought of reading it with her. I will definitely give this a try. Work is very heavy now and I have to bring it home to do, but I’ll try to find even just five minutes each night to do this. Something is always better than nothing right?
