Hard work teaching Literature and History

No because a student does not do all different types of history; in other words if he does \"O\" level elective history, he will be doing only Modern World History and not American history or Southeast Asian history or Chinese history or Japanese history, etc.


When I post about the different types of history, I am talking about the tutor who teaches history, not the student who chooses to do Elective or Pure History. The History tutor has to possess both breadth and depth, not the student. The student specialises in only one type of history but the tutor has to specialise in all the different histories. There is therefore a clear difference.

I have helped students who have trouble with Geography as well as those who need help in History. So it is not true that it is easier to score in Geography. Likewise in the past there have been people saying that it is hard to score in Literature. there are many neighbourhood schools whose students are flourishing in Literature.

Nowadays there are an increasing number of students who take on subjects they are interested in and not because of they think it is easier to score in that subject. I always advise my students to do what they are interested in; if they have an interest in the subject, they will be motivated to do well in it.

However if a student consistently does badly in a subject, the motivation and interest in that subject will definitely decrease too.


What is the difference between elective and pure history?
Any idea what type of history are RI students doing in year 3 and 4?
Modern World History or American history or Southeast Asian history or Chinese history or Japanese history???

I am so happy to hear that there is an increasing no. of students taking subjects they are interested in and not because of how hard/easy it is to score. I've always advised my children to do the same. Education is about discovering your interest, finding what really matters to you and knowing yourself as you walk your education journey and not just about score. I'm
glad students now have more courage than we were last time to do what they believe in,also many more options. I've seen many score well in math, getting their A1, A* just by practicing like hell but truly, how many really love math for what it is.

I tell my kids to go ahead and choose the subjects they love even if they score lower for what they love as compared to subject they do not like as much. If you love doing something you will overcome your difficulties, and even if you suffer for it you will not mind. Better results will show eventually. All things grow with love. This is being true to oneself, you are making choices and not being done to. That itself is a form of education.
