Does anyone know if the T-score given by the school is equivalent to the national level? Heard that for NYPS's T-score + 20 = National Level's T-score.

      Is that true?
t-score given by school is only at school level, based on data from that school's own cohort. there may be a certain variance from the national average

NYPS's t-score + 20 equals national level t-score is all 'dog shit' - it could be just a coincidence for a particular student in a particular year only and that parent talked about it

based on NYPS past years stats, the range of increase in t-score from NYPS prelim t-score to actual PSLE t-score could be anything from 5 to 75 or 80 ....

I am going to ask a stupid questions here.. It appears to me (and bear in mind that my son is still in K1, so I am very new to this) that primary schools which have a GEP cohort will naturally have a higher T score as their avg. is higher. from all the data in this thread I think (and i know that is actually refuted by the MOE) that the scores are not averaged on a national level first, but on a school level... and somehow that weighted average is than used ... hencforth according to rough calcs I have done.. based on heresay, it is better to go to an average neighbourhood school, and score top marks than go to a good school and score average marks.. On top of this if your MT is not Chinese sure a winner? It seems to me that the neighbourhood schools are coming up for a reason.. there has to have been some odd thing done to the calc. of the average? It has to be weighted if the school doesn't have GEP, hence their A or A* is higher..???

yes, confirm the questions asked are stupid ...... no offence please !

good school like NYPS has more than 43% scoring 250 and above, and more than 1/3 getting DSA offers ..... even if you consider that there is about 100 GEP kids out of a cohort of roughly 480 per year

reason for some neighbourhood schools coming up -- some are due to China factors, some of the kids are one year older, already covered the equivalent PSLE scope except the EL ability - taking an extra year to catch up ......

schools like Rulang - I won't consider it as \"neighbourhood\" at all

as for MT, there is no basis to suggest to that other MT are easier

my friend told me if EM1 students scored below 240 is considered bad. what do u think?

that is your friend's standard. sounds prideful

how many can get above 240 ? the top 10% is 250 and above ?

If can score well n go to good schs, the child will feel n make his parents proud. But very child is different. Some are late bloomer especially the boys. I have a friend whose boy scored 263 in PSLE. He is a smart boy but played too much n ended up didn’t do well in O n A level . Now ended can’t get in local Unv n have to go SIM. I have another friend , his boy scored 232 n went to a neighborhood catholic school. Later went VJC n now in medical school in NUS.

I have also seen my classmates whom topped the school/ class just doing \"OK\" in their careers while some of those always at bottom of the class are doing very well. 世事无绝对!

Just curious, were those top PSLE scorers all from GEP?

                    Not necessarily.
Thought one of the Top scorer, from Rulang (Neighbourhood sch).

Sch is Super Popular for P1 registration Now, Right?

                      Yap.....think only 10 vacancies for Phase 2B.

But seriously, think it's more like a one-off / once-in-a-blue moon kinda case.
Compare to the top schools, think the average cohort is still some distance away....but for a neighborhood school, a good progress and doing well 🙂
