Looks to me that RI’s results have already been very good and results in many areas (A level results, sports, SMO etc…) are still improving "in the expense" of most other top schools.

No doubt, this only goes to show RI is the no. 1 choice for boys going into the IP schools.

WeiHan, why need to make such comments in this thread? Most important is actually the student’s attitude and perspective, they should be positive regardless of where they get their education (regardless from RI or RV), their mindset should be - To be the best that you can be!

            :goodpost:

ps. if i might just add, the SMO is not strictly compulsory for anyone.
From what i can see among ds' schoolmates in RI, it's first and foremost a FUN competition for students who enjoy maths.

In fact, after the competitions, they can stay back for an hour or more, just discussing the various methods they used for different problems, and arguing as to which method is more elegant. 😃

Looking at the namelist of SMO 2012 junior special round invitees, most of them came from classes I-Q.

              Kiasucy:

Wonder in RI, is participating in SMO made optional for all students? How many students are given SMO training there?

My understanding is that in RI, SMO is optional - just pay to take part.

yep and i think esp from classes M, P, Q which i believe are where most of the Euler's program students are from.. ?

SMO training is given to students in the Euler's Program and also to students in Maths Club. Not sure of the exact number, but i guess around 40 or so from each year?

and quite a few of them are \"sponsored\" for SMO by the school, ie. no need to pay the fees for taking the competition. 😃

hi vks2010, thanks for the added info ~ 😃
how did you get this from the school?

btw, in the link i posted, the names are arranged in order of :
                1. School
                2. Score
                3. Alphabetical order if 2 or more have the same score.

ie, so Sheldon Kieren Tan is top scorer from RI in Junior 1st round ~
(but of course, actually most of the scores are very close.. and i hear it can get even closer in Round 2.. 😃
