        Suz855:
I think the school is trying to do too many things n end up leaving a lot of gaps for parents, tutor to fill. Most school each lesson is around 1/2 an hour, teachers move in n out n one innovative school which my dd happen to study in try moving students around classes too due to a few marks difference as they try to ensure student with the same calibre learn together but they fail miserably to understand or trying not to recognise that there is no differentiation in the teaching at all due to the quality of their teaching staffs. Anyway back to the 30 minutes, teacher come in lecture here n there abit ... Before more in depth teaching or discussion the period is over ... So what if our kids spend a lot of time in school , how much time did real teaching take place, I wonder. On another hand, we send our kids for tuition or enrichment, each session is at least an hr to 2 hr long, they are subject specific, the kids have time to settle n as the class is usually smaller or best 1 to 1, the kids learn, practice n get instant feedback ...so I am not surprise why some kids don't get it in school strive after tuition ...

        Funz:
There have been many posts that say tutors and enrichment centres are the ones teaching, not the schools. I find that improbable. How is it that a tutor can cover the entire syllabus within that 2hrs once a week while the school with 5 days and min of 45mins each session is doing such a dismal job.

In school environment, teachers do have a hard time catering to soooo many students and to some extent, with differing capabilities & learning attitudes.
When a school teacher tries to teach a topic, most often than not it's the student's first encounter with that topic....some kids grasp fast while some kids get confused, do not understand etc etc. Do some schoolwork, read a bit more....but still does not grasp fully.

Then the SAVIOUR appear...tuition time. I believe experienced tutors would know where are the difficult areas and can focus accordingly and thereby....the whole topic seems to be covered. To be fair, if these tutors are to become teachers under the same conditions (big class, first time cover topic etc), are you sure they can perform better?

For me, DD used to come home telling me she could not understand what the teacher was saying (P1). I also blame teacher too
But when I tried to help her, I realised how bad her auditory skills was..... I started getting her to read a little beforehand so that she has a better understanding and rely less on her auditory. It made a difference.
Think DD took after me, when I watch English movies, I need subtitles.....without it, I'm practically lost in most show....basically see pictures only 🤷

          Chenonceau,

Yes, parents have different ideas about parenting and the scope and it will change as the child is older.

The education system. I’m waiting for the day when no tuition centre can claim the top PSLE student as their student.

Oh one more thing…I hear parents telling their kids with tuition.

Dunno never mind. Go home ask your tutor explain again. So cannot say teacher never teach, sometimes students also never bother to ask them to explain again.

I told my dd1, if dunno remember must ask teacher to explain again.

I was awakened by her answer. I asked but the teacher explained the same thing, the same way. I couldn’t understand it the first time and I still
cannot understand it the 2nd time. So true.

I understood completely. It’s like talking louder when the person is deaf. The person is still unable to hear.

kekeke..... I understand what you say. Do encounter such teachers....but I just wanna say....'cannot capsize the whole boat'. Teachers reading the forum will be feeling very depressed.......

I don't think children will be addicted to tuition would they? Most of them at least. They would still rather have fun than study.

                  how abt the parents..?

if the poor kids are burnt out from the tuition and enrichment classes.. it certainty isn't healthy rite.. the parents got emotional distress if their kids didn't receive enrichment or tuition.. it's a bit like withdrawal symptoms from addiction.....

The teachers don’t need to be depressed.

I will ask dd1 to ask in such cases to ask the teacher again and to tell her she didn’t understand the explanation, could she explain it in another way.

I don’t know if dd1 will have a chance to ask a 2nd time, I will have to wait and see.

We have always impressed upon my boy to approach the teacher to clarify his doubts. Then feedback we get from teacher is he should have been more attentive. So now kids r judged when they asked questions in class when they not sure huh?

                        This one.....teacher wrong.
Unless....the child was really found to be not paying attention?? 😉 :siam:

DD is 'chairman' of class .....so often like to 'report' to me who & who & who & who & who & who is talking, giggling, not paying attention, reading storybooks under table while teacher teaching, drawing, doing other work etc etc etc etc....until I 🙏 she would stop. Then I realised.....what the heck is she doing while Teacher is teaching???
