All About Full-Time Maids
-
Piccolo, quite true pool of experienced Indo maid getting smaller. It will get worse starting August. Puasa, no maid wants to come out this period. Sept, Hari Raya also no many maid because their celebrations at least 2 weeks. By then it’s Oct. The maid will wonder why come to Singapore when I can wait another 2 more months for new system to kick in and I can enjoy the off day.
So conclusion, if you must get a Indo maid then better get one now. -
Dear all.
Really need opinions from you. I have a maid who is degree holder. We hire her because we hope she can help me take care one of my child ( have two boys, 4.5 and 2.5yrs) when I bring another one go out ( school or enrichment class).
But after she came here, we found she is very quite and no feedback if we ask her do something, example like she just put down the bowl and walk away if she finish feeding the younger one, never say finish not finish . Or just put change on table if I ask her buy something…no tell whether the thing bought or not, how much left , where is the money… Ask her wash vegs, stand there and never say finish or not
finish…
I tell her I need your feedback if I ask you do anything, I can check but something I am very busy with the two boys, so I say you tell me after
you done anything, but no improvement at all, she came here 5 mths already …
And she got some hearing problem, cannot hear clearly, so she will guess and most of the time is not correct if she cannot hear clearly(I cannot remember how many times already to remind her to ask me if did not hear clearly, I will repeat, it is ok) example, we come back from outside and turn on the tv already. She is at kitchen and doesn’t know., I ask her you did not hear, she said’ ya, I did not hear’. Or i ask her take towel and she will take a mop… Many many things like this …Feel very uncomfortable leave the small children to her, but I have no choice as we have no parents to help and husband need travel… But she is nice lady and will follow instruction to do things…
Really do not know whether I should change her or not… -
if she has hearing definitely she got speech problem, unless the hearing problem is a late-in-life injury
wonder how the agency could have recruited such a maid an bring to singapore … another irresponsible agency -
She say she got hearing problem because she swim too much before… And she never talk to other maids also, like my neighbour’s one, they won’t talk to each other when they meet at corridor…
We feel she got a very strange character… Cannot say problem, but feel very different from other person, sometime I can hear she talk to herself or saying something…we just guess maybe somthing happened to her before… -

Personally if after 6 months I still think I cant work with the person, then a change is better. I think the fear is always whether if the next one will be worst but if dont change will never know. If you dont think you can work with her for the long run then best to change.Dear all.

Hi personally I am never for new maids, I know some say transfer maids will have learn tricks to skive or learn bad things but I think new maids can only be hired if you are prepared to train them for a good 6mths to a year before they are effective, also they need close monitoring so best to have an elderly or someone at home.Hi...i'm very new in all this maid thing.I'm actually looking for a maid now to look after my 2 kids while i'm out working. Can experienced mummies out there tell me what to look for when choosing a maid?(exp: the years of experienced? )

I think new maids are not suitable for working couples because alot of these come from less developed countries so they not even know how to take bus/escalators, switch on stove, operate microwave/electrical appliances, let alone be trusted to look after babies by themselves. So there has to be someone at home to keep an eye on them. Not so much that they will run out or do anything funny but sometimes they forget things or just dont have someone to ask.
I think if you have kids at home, best to look for those with experience with kids, because they can say they love kids and even have kids themselves but alot of maids leave their children behind after giving birth so they never go thru the day to day of looking after kids.
Also best to get those that have experience in Singapore, different countries have different cultures so if they worked in other countries before coming here, they need another 2-3 months to orientate themselves.
Of course there will be a salary difference between new and transfer but the difference is minimal so better to go for the experienced ones. -

If you really feel not safe to leave the small kid with her, return her to the agent. Let them settle.Dear all.

To be safe then sorry.... :xedfingers: -
Thank you for the advises. I think it is better to change another one, there is nothing to lose…hope I have a good luck to get a better one…
Base on my experience of hiring the maid, singapore working experience is really the most important factor…I have a one who got 6 years singapore working experience and have samll children when I hired her before, really really very good, she stay with me for 4 yrs, and brought up my two children, unfortunately she need go back as she miss her children… So I quit my job and hire the cuurent one who have other countries experience to take care children, but the way they handle them and the way doing things is really different from Singapore… Long story Liao…Anyway, singapore working experience is more important . -
