I would be horrified too if the mom came at you with the cane running all around her house! :yikes:

But honestly, I feel for the poor girl. Wonder how she is now... 😞

maybe she's chasing her mom around the house with the same cane!

I think let me share my perspective on this tuition thing from an Indonesian Chinese point of view.

        Thanks for sharing, Dreamaurora 😉

Sometimes I wonder in this day and age, will parents balk if their kids choose a career path less travelled?

Say... they want to be an actor, painter, artist, musician...? Will parents mind? It's still a decent and respectable job, but not what the parents had in mind, like being a doctor, banker, lawyer, engineer....

I guess a lot of parents think if they 'invest' (God, I hate that word) time and money into their students, they expect good 'return'. And actor, painter, artist, musician, are still perceived as jobs with little 'return'. It seems illogical say if your child score perfect score enough to get into doctor or law, but opt for something else instead. But I am glad time is changing, I think last month in ST there was this article about this top poly girl who decided to pursue social study instead? And the comments were quite encouraging. If this is in the past, she would have been branded as not filial and idiotic.

some lawyers, accountants, engineers, doctors, dentists, pharmacists, and teachers have also made mid-career switch. they become full time professional home maker, specialising in education, environment, and finances

😉[/quote]That some take the law degree to fulfill their parents' wishes of having a professional degree then going on to pursue their true passions; and that being a lawyer isn't all it's cut out to be. 😄

An engineer dies and reports to the Pearly Gates. Saint Peter checks his dossier and says, \"You're an engineer you're in the wrong place.\"

So the engineer reports to the Gates of Hell and is welcomed. Soon, the engineer becomes rather dissatisfied with the level of comfort in Hell; he begins to design and build improvements. Shortly thereafter, Hell has air conditioning, flush toilets, and escalators. Needless to say, the engineer is a pretty popular guy.

One day, God calls Satan and says, \"So, how are things in Hell?\"

Satan replies, \"Hey, things are going great. We've got air conditioning, flush toilets, and escalators. And, there's no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next.\"

\"What! You've got an engineer? That's a mistake - he should never have been sent to Hell... send him to me.\"

\"Not a chance! I like having an engineer on the staff, and I'm keeping him!\"

God insists, \"Send him back or I'll sue.\"

Satan laughs uproariously and answers, \"Yeah, right. And where are you going to get a lawyer?\"
