True, church fund should be used mainly to further and maintain the church foremost. One of the main issues raised here is whether Sun Ho's music career in USA is truly meant to further the cause of the church. Even if we sit around doing nothing, like it or not, this case will affect other Christians indirectly. CHC is extremely high profile and like it or not does affect non believers' perception of Christianity in Singapore. Maybe some non believers will be so turned off that they will not even want to try attending a service in a more 'normal' church. That is why we have to be careful how we as Christians present ourselves as we are meant to reflect Christ in our lives. If we fail to do so, we may indirectly steer away people in our lives away from Christ forever.Umm, actually I thought church funds are meant to further the Christian cause, set up churches and outreach.....the focus on poor and needy is more on charity which churches can do, but should not be the main focus.
I don't go to that church and won't cast any stones since not my money. Just sit on the riverbank and watch the show. -

Maybe initial intention is good OR it is meant to be a scam all along. After what had happened, it made no difference. The intention is the same.Umm, actually I thought church funds are meant to further the Christian cause, set up churches and outreach.....the focus on poor and needy is more on charity which churches can do, but should not be the main focus.

You see. It is known that christian missionaries use charitable work as a form of outreach and proselytise people. Don't you know that?Umm, actually I thought church funds are meant to further the Christian cause, set up churches and outreach.....the focus on poor and needy is more on charity which churches can do, but should not be the main focus.

Perhaps. There are many ways to reach a goal. I was just pointing out that church funds are meant to fund church activities as a core activity. Someone had earlier posted the $$ should have gone toward helping poor and needy, it may not be so.

hquek is correct, a church's first and foremost obligation should be to its members and staff first. That means the fund is to be used to maintain the church building, conduct services, pay pastors and staff. That being said, it is impossible for a church to fulfill God's purpose without any forms of charity. Thus certain funds are normally set aside also for community outreach programs, supporting needy families, supporting missionaries overseas, etc.
