Hi,

Need some advice...still hesitating whether to DSA RI? As DS is from mainstream,no sport achievement, only good in math...got a platinum in SMOPS. I know chances to get into RI are LOW but DH is saying\" you never know if you don't give it a try\" So....very headache as the deadline is next week

      Thank You!

With his platinum in SMOPS he stands a much better chance than many others trying out for RI. I say go for it.

I thot RI look at Raffles World Maths Contest? My ds and classmates after taking both commented it is tougher than SMOPS.

jen72, what did your ds get for Raffles World Maths Contest ?
DS achieved a 93.87 percentile in the Raffles World Maths Contest, though I am quite proud of him but it is just a certificate of participation. If he could have achieved slightly better like a Credit, he would have feel better about RI or maybe chances would be higher...

NYGH has been known to give COs to GEP students without even seeing them - ie no need for interview nor test. πŸ™‚
may be for those NYPS girls whom Mdm Heng already known them, esp these few years before she moved to NYGH?

This was before Mdm Heng's time. I believe NYGH is still continuing with the practice under Mdm Heng. It's a blanket thing for GEP girls who meet certain criteria. Nothing to do with whether they were from NYPS.

jen72....go try πŸ™‚ Take it as experience.

              SMOPS platinum very good!!
DS managed to get a Credit for RI Maths Contest....but only Silver for SMOPS, so hard to say which is more difficult. Some forummer commented before, SMOPS and RI test differently. Me opposite from you, trying for HCI but not RI.

Did anyone try for DSA via asthetics this year??? Pls share your experience.

My dd1 is P5 this year so I started looking through the selected school websites on their requirements.

How many schools should we try for???? Was thinking of 2-3 is that too much?

In one of them, saw that they asked for grade 5 practical and theory in western instruments. I felt :nailbite: . Called the school and acknowledge that I am kiasu so asking ahead. They asked about her background and then told me that the grade 5 thingy is a nice to have. But what is going to make/ break is the actual audition..... she is definitely eligible to apply. But I thought good to do homework earlier so that we can prepare. Also, I am going to show her those requirement eg. overall average cannot be lower than 70%, etc... so she has to work hard.

Asking her piano teacher if can position her for grade 5 theory.... practical is definitely a stretch. But good to learn that it's not MUST have but nice to have.
