      Hi zeemimi & mum2gals,

Thanks for the detailed information. Glad to hear that ur children are happy there. 🙂

However, is there really an issue regarding the holding site at amk? Quite worried on the safety aspect as my gal will have to take school bus if she manages to ballot in.

By the way, since there is no open house for KCPPS this year, when do you think is the good time to take a look at the school compound? I intend to bring my gal there during the P2A period…is it appropriate?

There were several pressing issues because the impression given at the town hall meeting was that major traffic congestions is anticipated and hence the children have to alight outside the school and walk in. There is also no shelter, thus exposing them to the elements of weather.

However we just got a letter from the school today informing us that shelters will be built and the buses will drop off pupils within the school.

Actually these are the basic minimum that the school has to do for the move. These should have been ironed out before the town hall meeting, which would have minimized the unhappiness which arose during the meeting.

i mentioned earlier that \"The staff's parking needs is given more priority over safety issues.\" This was because one of the reason given for not allowing the children to alight within the school is that the car park is very small. Hence with the lots taken up for staff's cars, the buses cannot maneuver in. :? I agree the staff's parking needs is important. But to give such reason, thus implying that 25 staff parking lots are more important than the >1000 students' safety is absurd. There is a public HDB carpark just across the school. If the school has the staff's welfare at heart, she should pay for their monthly parking charges. It would be easier for an adult to cross the road to reach the school safely. Anyway it was mentioned that the parking lots are not enough for all the staff. So it would have meant that some get to park within the school and some don't. So to be fair, all the staff should park across the road.

Just read the notice from principal on the feedback and the so-called solution of the holding site at AMK. With the structure of the road, traffic, we are to send our kids in staggered hours, be it rain or shine??? taking school bus will be dangerous as bus can’t get into the car park. Building the shelter will not help much. It is making we parent extremely worrying! Worst my girl is having PSLE nx year. So many remedial and supplementary classes… Am I to resign just to send n fetch them??? Both the school and ministry doesn’t seem easing much looking this way…

                Hi zeemimi and mum2girls,

Thanks for your inputs. Glad to know yours kids are happy in kcpps. I’m looking for a school that produces decent results and takes care of the overall well being of the students. In fact, I heard some good schools expect that parents send kids to outside enrichment or tuition, and I don’t think that’s the right mentality. We parents can choose to do so, but the schools should not expect us to do so.

For the holding site, I think the school should have assessed long ago when they were allocated the site and fed back to MOE if it’s suitable to meet its needs in the most basic form. Just looking at the holding site facade, it’s much smaller than kcpps current premise so it seems tough to handle the student capacity isn’t it.

Done a site reccee at holding site…it’s going to be a real mess sending them or picking them from school! The drive in only permit one vehicle at a go. Right outside the gate is car park… Will be a horrible jam. Saw some alteration construction inside the school. Wonder what are they doing. This is certainly not idea. Why don’t that combine 2 schools at Bishan ITE holding site? My primary school shared the premise at Bedok View Secondary School as its holding site then. I think all parents should write in to the MOE to re consider this. Why must action only be taken when something happen! If things can be prevented…

To be frank. Sometimes, the school may not has the power to fight but I think parents' power will be stronger. Afterall, the decision is by the respective planners for the project not KCPPS. I believe the school also wants to have the best for their students. I am sure that they have tried to fight but was not successful initially but parents' power is stronger so they managed to fight for something better at the end :rahrah: . You will see that some elite schools get to use a better premise as their holding school and reason being that the number of students is more so require a bigger space. As for funding for the staff parking. Schools are given certain funding (Limited) to use. If the funding is use for the staff parking, the school will have lesser fund to use for other stuff. Recently, we have just heard from a teacher (ex-teacher) who has ever tried to organise a trip for the students. However, the funding are not enough for them to proceed and the students have to fork out their own money in order to organise one. As the students are mostly from average or below average family, in the end the trip was called off. He was telling us that those elite schools can easily get sponsorship from organisation and you will not see such thing happen to those elite schools.

Was helping out with the p3 performance months back and realized that class teacher and assistants were so rude to students. They are just plain nasty n definitely lack of patience. This makes me consider if I should send my kId to this sch

:? Actually all schools have nasty teachers, not just kc. For some reasons which i can't really pinpoint, many students start experiencing nasty teachers from P3 onwards. I felt my older kids got their worst teachers at P3. But to be fair, most of their teachers were pretty ok. I quite like my kids' current form teachers at kc.

At P3, it's like honeymoon is over. Welcome to the world of SA1s and SA2s and more drills, more rigours and more academic emphasis. And say bye to the many learning journeys they had at P1 and P2, it's down to a few only.

But one thing i always tell my kids, no matter which teachers they get, the teachers have the authority over them and still have to be respected. As long as the teachers do not cross moral boundaries, the students have to learn to obey them. This is training in life skills.

Anyway, as parents, more than often we have come across situations when we have to raise our voices at our kids just to get the point across to them, haven't we? 🤷
