your boy is not talking at all or he is not good at talking/expressing himself? can he tell u what he wants or don't want?
he's not talking at all.he expressed himself through screaming/crying. he's quite sensitive. even when his meimei touches his toy car, he gets angry & scream. if he doesnt want something, he will shake his head, but if he wants something, he doesnt know how to say it, he just scream lor. now the problem with him is he doesnt want to talk at all :frustrated:

        Mummyjane,

apart from talking and screaming issues, did u observe any other issues about him? eg, does he like messy play? does he has eye contact?

I think is good for u to call the Kkh doc about EIPIC

what do u mean by messy play? yes he has eye contact.

he likes those role play like kitchen toys, cooking toys. so far im able to teach him to pretend play like stiring in a cup, drink, eat, after that he is able to keep his toys neatly. even when his younger sibling makes a mess, he will help to keep the toys too. But not always la, depends on his mood.

Mummyjane, my boy used to scream a lot when he was around 3 years old. It happened when we bring him into an enclosed area or crowded area, be it a shop or clinic. He would roll on the floor, screamed and cried loudly- of course, we invited a lot of disapproving stares from members of the public. It was only until recently (last year) then I learnt that all these behavior issues are related to sensory integration problems, which can be resolved by OT. If I have known earlier, I would send him to OT- last time I thought OT is just to address general gross and fine motor skills.

Anyway, he managed to out grown that behavior issue, through difficult way- we just continued to bring him out to crowded and enclosed area, be more thick skinned and ignored all the stares that he invited when he did his public meltdown again. As the time goes by, he has lesser public meltdown, probably because he got used to the environment

specialboymum-just wonder, is this part & parcel of growing up? how old is yr boy now? is he attending OT? does it helps in his behaviour?

Your boy’s case seems grey to me. He seems to have some ASD symptoms but yet like not strong enough to warrant that. Your KKH doc never mention anything about ASD? just speech delay? Then if so, just work on his speech, once he gets his speech, his behaviour prob may be reduced.

IF the HPB speech therapy sessions are not frequent enough, maybe u should look into private, at least once a week (one hour each). The cost is about $150-160 per hour, depending on the seniority of the therapist.

yes, Leapfrog will do an assessment of your boy first before confirming the type of therapy he needs. The assessment is $180. Leapfrog is at Bukit Timah road, among a roll of shophouses

                        hi mummyjune,

about the late blooming part, don’t worry so much about it too.
my daughter was a very very late talker.
she can only talk in sentences after she enters nursery, before that the max i can get out of her is 2 or 3 words together.
as they grow older , they will blossom on their own and now my daughter talks nonstop .
I was quite worried about the talking part intially too, but my friend reassured me that once they are older, they will start talking nonstop .
but we have to keep talking to our kids , to stimulate their speech too.
Keep asking , keep talking, this is what the the therapist taught me.
