The culture is different lah. It is their way of being friendly. Sometimes they hear you speak in Mandarin they treat you as their own people, but the way they speak to their own people can be very direct, sometimes so direct that the sound rude to us. I often have to stick to speaking in English to them, especially those in the service industries so they remain polite as we would expect from a service personnel.
