My boy shakes head when he says no leh…

What brushing is it? My son is undersensitive to certain areas so he needs lots of deep compression and stimulation. He touches every wall he walks pass, pops in staple bullets, uses his hands to eat. Brushing sounds like something that I can do for him.

Oh dear, it must be very taxing for you. Looks like he does have his good days. What happens on his good days? Does he talk and communicate? -
mashy
yes, is indeed taxing for us. on his good days, he can be very happy enjoying himself with his toys, listen to us. He does talk but he talks in his own language which we do not understand. for example, there are some days when i saw a red cartoon chop on his hand, so i asked him, who chop for u? iszit teacher? & he tried to say something but it was in his own language which we don’t understand. so we tried few times, asking him, iszit teacher chop on yr hand? still the same answer from him in his own language. we assume he is trying to tell us something but we just couldn’t get it. -
Can he eat solid food like apple or boil carrot or eat nuggets

My boy also same thing when he was this age. We couldn’t understand what he was saying. Have u got his ears checked yet? Coz very often, speech delay is due to hearing prob. Because we couldn’t understand what he was saying, he got increasingly frustrated. But instead of screaming, my boy gave a ‘whatever’ look and stopped even trying to tell us what he wanted. We brought him to a speech therapist when he was 4+. We started from single sounds and slowly worked on it. Everyday we practiced until we could understand him. Now we can understand what he’s saying 90% of the time although sometimes he says irrelevant stuff. I think your boy’s behaviour may improve once he can communicate effectively. Right now he is probably feeling frustrated from not being able to express himself. Screaming is also a form of communication. Work on his speech. Then work on his behaviour. And if he hasn’t had his ears checked, get it checked. -

Once a month is not enough. U need at least twice a month. I realized the real improvement was when he had twice a month therapy and I also bucked up myself.
I have to admit I was a bit lazy at first. But when the twice a month therapy came, I had to make myself go thru the daily activities. The nurses at the rehab called me when they could arrange twice a month schedule. If not, u try to book way in advance. Then again, rehab and CDC work differently. Rehab side is more open to freq therapies. And my boy’s therapies are one hour each time. I wonder if they will allow u to change dept… Right now, he’s having once every 3 weeks. -
Mashy, brushing help with sensitivity, be it under or over. I think u can let your boy try out. Thus is usually done by an OT.
Anyway, my hubby said my boy has big meltdown in the mall today as he can’t get his iPhone game. His tantrums is getting worse these days. Haiz. He better for a while but now he is on it again.
On the positive side, he finally master writing A to E. It feels good to see my effort pay off. Now back to his tantrums, really giving me a headache. -

Yes, i planned to get my boy’s ears checked. But do i need to get referal from kkh doc?
yr boy also therapy @ HPB? which therapist is he with? good? Ok, this mth therapy, i try to ask to squeeze in twice a month. btw what u mean by rehab? different from speech therapy? -
Mummyjune
My son is with the rehab section at kkh not HPB. They operate independently. Yes, u need a referral from the dr to get ears checked by ENT. U can ask your therapist to write a note to the referring dr.
He has changed many therapists already as his needs changes over the years. So we have seen at least half of the therapists in kkh rehab. Some are good, some not so good. So really by chance. His speech therapist who dealt with his articulation is quite good. Ok, simPly means that it worked for him. She’s Marie. An ang moh, so cannot remember her last name. The therapists there are pretty young. Probably not as experienced as those in private therapies but they made up for it with their enthusiasm and care. There were points when we just couldn’t make any progress and I highlighted to them. Sometimes we switched goals, sometimes we changed therapists. They all had their areas of specialty and they do job rotation after one or two years. They also offer special classes like school readiness program, social prog, group handwriting class etc. Think they also hav eipic. Now they are trying to find another kid to pair up with my son to do social skills therapy.
I don’t know how HPB works but from my sil’s recent experience, they seem highly inefficient in setting appointments. -

from my observation, the therapist with my son did the same thing on his 2nd session again. Is strange cos she also asked me to do a video on my son playing, exactly what she told me on the 1st session. so the 2nd session is basically exactly the same as the 1st session. worst, is only 45mins session yet the nurse can tell me is 1hr session.
we know that there is no overnight success. cannot depend on the ST. we ve to keep talking & asking him, mayb one day he will talk, who knows…
was yr son initally at HPB den switched to kkh rehab? i wonder if my boy can switch over to kkh rehab instead.
