Hi
No worries it's only for Chinese lesson
I guess they will always be changing classes for chinese per term?
Most important is the kids know what the teacher is talking about
Do you know they teach chinese lesson nowadays in mixture of English and Chinese?
Not like in our time when Chinese teachers are really Chinese all the way
Now is modern chinese with english mix in
Cheers
Cfan,
I didn't know Chinese teachers speak to students in Chinese and English. I didn't hear that from my gal, so far she has no problem listening and understanding teacher's instructions. I am more worried if teachers are lax, my gal will be lazy as she is more keen in doing her own things than homework. That's why I raised my concern in my earlier posting. When her Chinese teacher said no need to submit the worksheet, she said no need to do. -

Ya, I guess at the beginning when the kids were all gathered together, the teachers weren’t sure who can or cannot understand them so English mix in so that the kids get it?
I understand how you feel I would rather have a strict teacher as that would help to build up discipline in kids.
I guess you might have to tell her teacher say no need to submit to her but I want to see and you have to do!!
I still have not find out more info from my girl on the classes yet as it seems they were still adjusting to school after a long holiday.
Will update again when I have more info?

Cfan,
Yes, I got my gal to do the paper even she don’t need to submit it to teacher. This teacher is not as gd as teacher Lee. She told the kids that she will only explain to them if they hv incorrect answers on their worksheet. What is worse is today she gave the kids answers for yesterday worksheet, when my gal has not complete it yet. This really defeat the purpose of learning. It seems like this teacher cai assumes care 2 students do not need a lot of teaching. My gal is gd in han yu pin yin cos it is in English. However, due to the teaching of Han yu pin yin in semester 1, she has forgotten a lot of Chinese characters. So based on Han yu pin yin results to stream kids into different levels is not an accurate gauge of the Chinese level. I was surprised that she has high marks for chinese, I would rather her go to care 4.
The Chinese worksheets she has been bringing home is very chim for P1. I think I would rather her not go to top 3 class for Chinese. -
HiHi
What is your opinion of Fernvale Pri so far?
From what I read here, it’s not so favourable due to the teachers?
TIA -
Toots,
Not every teacher is not gd, I am still learning more abt the school. My gal’s form teacher is very gd, she is strict and teaches well. My gal don’t hv problems in English and Maths. Her Chinese teacher in semester 1 was very gd, but due to the streaming and some last min changes, she is not teaching the class my gal is in. During the teacher parent meeting, teacher lee told me she would be teaching my gal’s class. It is really a matter of luck whether you can get gd teachers. I am still monitoring as this is the 2nd wk of the new semester. I just don’t hv a very gd impression of this Chinese teacher in my gal’s class, as my gal’s feedback is different from the last semester. -
THanks Capricon

So far how is the PSLE results for Fernvale? I only have Fernvale Pri within 1km of my hse.
Thanks thanks -
Capricon,
My DD lagi best
Q: What’s the teacher’s name?
A: Don’t know
Q: You understand what teacher is saying?
A: Ya
Anyway, I have not seen any worksheets from her chinese only the activity book and spelling lists.
I get her to do assessments I got from Popular, concentrating on Oral ability for her.
See how
Cheers

Actually I got pretty good impression of the teachers as the communication between the Form Teacher and me and also the workshops which I have attended so far.
The only thing we (Capricon and me) have in common now is not really getting "good feel" of the Chinese teachers. Maybe we need to get to know them more and assess further…???..

thanks cfan… just worried how is the performance of the school. So many people say that Neigbourhood sch teachers are better cos they teach alot and branded school teachers are lazy and expect parents to do the job…So i wonder if it is true
-
Toots,
Really? Never heard of that, I don’t think it’s true. Branded school will definitely be stressful for kids who are not up to their standard as the school need to maintain their reputation. I believe every school will hv hardworking and lazy teachers around. It is just a matter of percentage, it’ll be better to hv more dedicated and hardworking teachers around. -

For me I think the most important is whether my DD can cope with school and find school interesting and \"fun\".
If she were to go \"branded\" but is unable to cope, she will not like it and I will feel stress
If she were to go \"neighbourhood\" she can cope, show me progress in work and yet have fun, I guess I won't be so stress??
The future is up to her to make I am only helping her to lay the foundation, hopefully brand or no brand, she will grow up to be loving, independent and able to contribute to society in her own way.
That's what I want.....
Cheers
