To answer Tulip, yes, the school orientation was pretty well organised…quite impressed by the way it was run.

Yes..the rate might be right as they are likely to be using the smaller 20-seater vehicle for Serangoon area. My girl is taking the bigger 40-seater type as there are a lot of students from the Bishan-AMK area.
Last year, I was paying $95 one-way for my girl's kindergarten (for the 20 seater) from Thomson to Bishan.
Perhaps you could clarify further with the bus operator. -
personally i don’t really satisfy with the arrangement on that day, as to the hassle for getting all the necessary.
i have pre-oredered the book on-line after we received the list enclosed with the KCPPS letter. however, the PIC told me that they are not allowed to deliver the book ordered on the orientation day itself, which means I have to make another trip down to the school at a later date to collect my order through the bookshop.
for the PE attire, they don’t even take any order due to they do not have the sizes for trying on as well they don’t have measuring tape to take measurement. the bookshop merely received order for books and name tags. They told me I can buy the PE attire when I make the trip to collect the books (so it means I have to go through the Q again for my boy to fit/try the sizes…??)
as for the uniforms, we able to place order and pay for our boy’s size on that day. however, it would be of another date another location for collection.
hence, overall, i find it really chaotic and troublesome!!! -

Hi Tulip,Hi KCPPS parents,
The P1 orientation was last Saturday. Any feedbacks or comments after this encounter? Are you liking what you've seen so far?
Ha..how time flies..I still vividly remember my girl's first day in school, we were more anxious then the kids actually.
My word of advise is to keep abreast with your child's work in school. Make sure they do well in their SA1 too, as the weightage is 40% of the final year-end score. For English, SA1 only test on Oral, Listening Compre, Spelling (computed from their weekly spellings) and written paper. SA2 will be more difficult to score for English as it consist of compo, show & tell, authentic tasks, oral, listening compre and written paper, so more chances of dropping marks :D.
The school has learning support programmes (LSP) and remedial classes for the weaker students. At the prize presentation at the end of year, they do also recognise efforts of LSP students by awarding the best LSP Maths student and LSP English student.
Cheers...
Are these information about the exam scheme and streaming would only be disclosed to the parents when the school starts?? or when the exams are round the corner?? or is it merely some \"informal\" pass-down information among parents???
Frankly, I really know very little about KCPPS scheme, as it seems like every school may vary ...?? -

The information on the banding can be found in the KCPPS student diary along with other school information.
As for exam scheme, early last year, we had a briefing from the school on the SEED/Stellar Programme, including the modes of assessment on the school subjects. You can find more information here : http://www.kcpps.moe.edu.sg/Seed.htm At the briefing, the Principal gave us a brief address and also touched on the banding/streaming of the different class levels.
My girl will be having new classmates come next year. They've all been streamed to different classes for the new academic year. But we don't know which are the 2 top classes. Some parents told me the top classes are class A & B, but some told me A & B are not necessarily the 2 best classes (too obvious) :?
In any case, over time we will know by tracking which class the top student goes to

Hi Tulip,
Thanks for the information ...guess this is something we might expect from KCPPS for my boy as well.
Hope we'd get more detailed briefing once the school starts. Actually it's really hard for me to recall now ...all the stuff that has been addressed by the Principle on that day :frustrated:
I wonder my parents get so nervy back then...???! It seems the school system/scheme is far more simple at that time

Hi Yenoscar,
No worries...actually the first day address by the Principal is just very brief info., nothing that we really need to know  If you have time, do go through the slides I mentioned above, you will get a better idea of how the students will be assessed (in SA1 & SA2) and what is being taught.
Ha, during my time, my mum has to queue overnight for a place for my elder sis (I then got in thru siblings priority) in the nearest primary school fm home; and it's not even a popular one at present day.
By the way, who is your son's form teacher? Just wondering if my girl's batch of teachers will be following them to Primary 2. -

Hi Tulip,
Sorry...i didn't even get hold of the form teacher's name on that day
When we sent him, a teacher (i think) asked for the name then hand-out a name tag to us, then she just moved-on to others parents ....rather chaotic, so we didn't have a good opportunity to ask, by then we being urged to leave the children and proceeed for the briefing.
While at 1 point when all parents are gathered for filling-up of forms, 1 parent did ask but we got message as tentatively the teacher that show the kids around would be the form teacher, but cannot remember a name was mentioned/given.
At the end of the day when we pick up our son from the hall, no 1 come upfront and introduce herself as my son form teacher. Or simply because we didn't ask around either..??
Anyway, I never ask my son after that as well. We only make sure he knows where his class, the nearest toilet and the canteen
