My NT gal also swallows the water instead of spitting. It all takes time. My gal also needs help in brushing or else she will just be chewing the brushes.

Yah, my girl also can’t spit out yet but she’s still young, just turned 2. Sometimes, I feel that God gives her to me for a special reason. Through her, I get to enjoy the interaction and affection between a NT kid and a parent and she gives me the confidence that she can help me to take care of my boy in future.

Me too! I thoroughly enjoyed the experience that I didn’t have with my boy. It’s through her that I realized how a child should behave and what I have been missing out for the past few years.

Whatever makes u think that ASD cannot live independently!!! They can. Just not now as a kid. All kids can’t anyway.

And NT kid has more interaction, shows u things, have imaginary play and ask u to Join in their tea parties, gives opinions, compliments, tells u when she’s scared and not scream etc. I can hold a decent conversation with my gal (back and forth) by the time she’s 2.5 or maybe younger. Then again, her speech dev is amazing, way advanced even compared to average kids.

                    Dear all,

It’s been some time I posted. I have just delivered my #3. I hope he will be NT as well. Even if he is not, I am much better prepared as well to look out for signs and know where to look for help.

So far I can say my ASD boy is coping well. He is starting to interact more even his SLT whom always say he is 2 yrs behind his age also say he has improved. I am not too sure if the therapy really helped him or bcos he has grown more matured. Lately he started to talk back and even negotiate with us. Something which he has not done previously.

Of cos there are times where he throw tantrums when he didmt get what he wanted. But we are still trying our best to calm him down as much as possible. We are also learning along the way.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I will try one more time since we need to attend the party. If he still behaves this way, I will stop bringing him to indoor playground for a while and just settle with outdoor playground which he enjoys.

And Mummies, are there times that you lose it and lay your hands on your kids? I am guilty of that, either I beat his bottom with my hands or I use a cane. As much as I know he behaved badly due to his condition, there are times I feel that he is just pushing his luck because he can get over it pretty fast. And according to my mum, he behaves more badly when both my hubby and I are around.
                      Hi Double E,

Have been reading your posts, thanks for sharing!

My boy coming to 5 yo soon and he is speech-delayed. He does whine and scream quite a lot this year ESPECIALLY with us - his daddy and mummy! Yet he is on his best behaviour in school, with my maid and his tuition teacher can sit for one to one and a half hours just doing his homework cooperatively!

Yes, sometimes I also feel my boy is pushing it because he whines and cannot be pacified by nice talking. After a while, I do use the cane to threaten him to stop. It will be effective IF the boy is genuinely acting it up. But if my boy was genuinely distressed and upset about something, I can tell you even laying the cane on him does not work. Then there is no point we get work up but must change tactic and see how to pacify him get him to cool down. Sometimes we got to help each other out (hubby and I) to try to figure out what he wanted.

I found that the recent school holiday break really helps our family a LOT! My boy is now a lot happier and regulated since the June holiday break whereby he just stay at home and did whatever he wanted. Also he got a break from the speech therapy because his ST took a break of one month as well. We also went to Sentosa for 4 days and just let him do swimming and what he enjoyed the most. I found the break in routine is good for him because he came back and forgot the \"routine whine\" already!

Anyway now sometimes at night when he gets a bit fussy, I will go and rub him, rub his belly, say nice thing to him with \"understanding words\" like \"OIC, you are feeling itchy? Let mummy rub cream for you!\" Manja him lah!

I am not the most patient mummy I can tell you and I am the one welding the cane at home. But now, I try to manja and be patient first before going for the cane (which my hubby hates).

Having read your post, I also thought perhaps your boy bored with the indoor playground already and /or don't like dark. Its is OK, just give it a break and/or go somewhere else for a change.

Like what my boy's swimming instructor said, it is not for \"such kids\" to follow our agenda but we have to follow their agenda and in the process try to teach them as well. 🤷

                        Desert wind,

Your son attending swimming lessons? Is it 1-1 or I’m group? The instructor takes in ASD kids?
