Asia spending billions on tutors: study

First impression is :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
Let me rephrase thatconcern2:
Zest for life. I like.
Study for life? Dislike.
'Learning for life '
Now how about that?
Just passed by a student who was wearing a t-shirt that had
had defined studying
Student + Dying = Studying
Next is... :nailbite: :scared: :yikes: -

shy students got disadvantaged ...... okay here is goes again, how to level it up huh[/quote]
I believe this happens more easily for the secondary school kids. Primary school kids have varying maturity. From what I hear of our school, the teachers are always hopping in and out of the classroom for lessons. Staff room is a sacred place no one can go except monitors and only with permission. So we cannot assume all schools have the same practices of easy access to teachers.ksi:

students can always make appointment with teachers for consultation, after classroom hours. no problem at all
Don't worry, how it goes again, won't start another thread on \"disadvantaged shy students\". It's very xiong for me checking KSP posts and replying, doing housework and cooking + coaching DS in his work.
Maybe if his grades slip because of me being glued to KSP, I may start a thread on \"Detrimental effects of KSP to homemakers\"

Why did the Science dept want to poach the students? How is it beneficial to the Science dept to have these kids taking Triple Sci?tutormum:
DS3 didn't want to do TS as he hates Bio and there's no way to force him to study something that he's no passion for. (He took Literature against everybody's opinion that it's very difficult to score A and Literature is not popular. Well, he has been scoring A for it and enjoying himself.) He thinks that those who offer TS but not strong in the subjects are just being dumb cos they are stretching and stressing themselves.
Kudos to you and your son for taking the road less travelled :salute:
This reminds of streaming period when I was teaching. Ultimately, many of my better pupils who had the intention to do Pure Lit with 2 Sciences were always poached by the Science department to do TS (no Lit) and they do succumb to the pressure eventually because of the false notion that TS is much better in terms of future prospects
I cannot comment on whether they were able to cope or not as I did not follow up. -
Lilac66:
Good point Lilac66!!Ultimately we have to agree that some of the suggestions given about regulations of tuition come from the desire to make our education system more \"palatable\" for all and nobody will be disadvantaged just because they cannot afford good tutors.
Pls understand our intentions are good. :boogie:
There is no doubt the intention is good and everyone is encouraged to say their piece in a civil way regardless if the views are the same or not.
The only caveat here is(and it is not directed at you Lilac66, a general comment only) not to direct the discussion at one another simply because the views differ. There is value in amiable diversity.
So keep discussing and enjoy the diverse views. -

It would look good for the Department if they produced good results.autumnbronze:

I can only speculate .....
I have to add that this scenario happened almost 10 years back, so the mindset may have changed since then.
