Information to share with parents interested in TGPS: Yesterday my DS brought back a letter to inform about this talent program TGPS is having. It gives the kids a chance to attend 4 to 5 workshops on Guzheng and choir to discover their potential. If the school access that the kid has any potential in any area, they will put him/her in talent program and send for external grading. I find this a good program. It may helps to discover some talented kids.

      Hi Rejoice,

      Thanks for the info.

Will this program apply to lower primary e.g. P1?
Dont mind to let my DD to try out Guzheng IF we manage to get her in TGPS on 30 July

        Hi mng_kl,

Yes, the letter said it is for P1 to P3 students. My DS is P2 this year. I heard from the teacher that they want to start it young :-).

        Hi Orangejuice02,

Welcome to the forum. Sorry that I donโ€™t really know about the other two schools so canโ€™t really give you any advice. Have you visited the other schools? You can call up Teck Ghee general office and explain your intention. See if they can let you visit the school.

Cheers and all the best to both of you on your P1 registration.
        Rejoice

          Hi Rejoice,

Thanks for sharing, my DS didnโ€™t received the letter, guess he did not indicate his interest in Guzheng. Personally i like Guzheng, i find it a good CCA to discipline the child, both in discipline and patience. Hope your DS will get into the club.

          Hi Mng_kl,

Good luck to your upcoming P1 registration exercise.

          Regards,
          Astee

            Hi OJ2,

Welcome to the TGPS Forum. I believe each school has their own niche area. There is an article in recent Sunday Times and the author suggested parents talking to the school Principal to understand his/her vision for the school in the next few years, will perhaps, help them make an easier decision. ๐Ÿ˜„

The author ended the article saying that if really there is any better schools of choices - it would be those GEPs schools as they have the brighter children. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Just sharing some light moments and wishing you the best of luck in the upcoming registration. Remember: whichever school your child goes to, she must enjoy the next 6 years of her Primary Education journey...

            Regards,
            Astee

            Hi everyone

I'm new here. I will be registering my DD for P1 in abt 3 weeks time. Till now i cant decide which school to enrol her in. I missed the Teck Ghee Open house ๐Ÿ˜ž

Can any mummies here advise me? I am considering Mayflower, Teck ghee or Marymount Convent. Which sch is better?

                Hi OJ2,

You are most welcome. If i remembered correctly, one of the parents told us that last year 2011 registration, there was balloting for Phase 2C Supplementary. Which phase are you due for registration? Also this year SGP Child has priority over PR, so if you are SGP, then i would think 1 - 2 km should not be an issue. Do monitor the take up rate on MOE website as the phases end as this will give you an idea if balloting may be required at the few schools that you had shortlisted for your DD.

Yes, your were told correctly that P1 student will be given homework but in my personal opinion - it is not alot... ๐Ÿ˜‰ Normally it's a page or 2 pages or single worksheet. I guess being parents, we prefer homework, than to no homework. As we can gauge how our own child is doing in his/her school work. This homework is usually the current curriculum being taught in class.

                Regards,
                Astee

i am under 2C. Hopefully i need not have to go through 2C sup. Actually my 1st choice is Aitong. but looking at the MOE registeration, i ve no chance. Yes, i prefer to have homework.

Btw, does your DS take up any CCA in P1?

                    OJ2,

Wow..ATS - you need to do PSG/Stay within 500m/joined HK Clan, otherwise, chances are really as good as NIL. ๐Ÿ˜“

My DS was interested in badminton since P1, now he is still waiting for his opportunity to join as i heard the places are full for the team, so they are not taking in anymore. He is p2 this year. ๐Ÿ˜„

                    Have a great weekend.

                    cheers,

                      Hi OJ2,

ATS left with only 19 seats for 2C while TGPS still have 73. I think balloting formATS within 1km is definitely. TGPS should still go without balloting for 1km and if your kid is SGP, then likely no ballot at all. Just call up the school on the third day of 2C to find out more.

Actually my DS does not have lots of homework in P1. I was told they were given enough time in school to complete the work so they donโ€™t have to bring back. I can tell that from the amount of worksheets he brought back after each term :-). This is he is P2 and his homework has increased from once a week to three to four times a week. I think that is a good sign and good enough volume as my DS has more time to go for other interesting lessons or just enjoy the afternoon at the park :-). I give him some assessment worksheet to do at home on those days he does not have homework or other classes.

                      Hi Astee,

Yes, we decided to let him try out Guzheng though hubby thinks it is more suitable for girls :-). Hope he enjoys it since he likes music. But then it also mean five less afternoons for him to play, haha.

                        Hi Rejoice,

Good to hear that your DS is trying out for GZ and for your husband information, there are a handful of boys in the team and i don't think it's a girl's thing.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

GZ has been one of the top CCA in TGPS and they have been given Gold rating for previous and this year SYF competitions. They also performed for community events and recently, even on Okto for a CNY program. It's a CCA that TGPS is very proud of amid the others.

So to be accepted in the team is already a great honor and it's takes alot of hard work and practices to be where they are today. Let's hope your DS will cont'd to bring the pride and glory to the school.

                        Cheers,
                        astee
