I use old tees and old bath towels as floor cloth and discard them after use, no need to wash. On occasions when i have visitors, I'll use proper bath mats. Like you, I hate the hand washing part but will not contemplate putting them into my washing machine.

Oops!! I soak the mats with washing powder & hot water overnight. The next day, rinse the mats then put into washing machine & turn temp to 60 degree (stain) & did a quick wash. Should be ok right?

Maybe I should wipe the drum after washing floormats? Btw, how often do u change yr floormats? I change every 2 to 3 days. Is it too soon? But the bathroom mats wet very fast so have to change.

I reckon the worst of the dirt will come off in the soak, and I don't have to wring them by hand.[/quote]I dump my floor cloth into semi washing machine. Put some bleach. Wash, spin 2x. Job done! That machine is strictly for floor cloth...bought it sometime back. I have another machine just for our clothes. Dry ourselves before stepping out toilet. Change floor cloth every week.

Gosh! I throw my floor cloth, mats and rags into the washing machine after collecting them for about a week in a separate basket. Is it true it’s unhygienic to wash them in the washing machine? I accumulate the cloths so as to conserve water as it is wasteful to use the washer for only 1-2 pieces daily.


Anyway, anyone knows how to clean the drum of the washing machine to remove the dirt accumulated after use for a long period of time?

I change every sunday. I have both \"old tee/clothes\" and proper one's. During busy periods, I adopt the use and throw to cut down housework. The clothes are dumped into washer to launder. After the \"floor cloths\" run, I usually will launder the jeans/cushion covers/soft toys etc before laundering clothes.

Me TOO! Once a week, collect all and into the washing machine they go. I use detergent and 2 caps of laundry sanitiser.

I am not particular as machine is contantly rinsed with detergent and water so how dirty can it be. I'll usually shake each cloth off dust particles before it goes into machine.

Eh osim, my thinking is like you - how dirty can it be? But hor, apparently can be very dirty lor! But I don't want to know about mine.... :rotflmao:

My colleague changed hers cos it was churning out black flaky stuff like seaweed. Someone told her those are mold :sick: :nailbite: :yikes:

You gave me an idea - laundry sanitiser... Maybe I shd check it out!

Just a suggestion for those with babies/young children and throw floor cloth into washers - avoid laundering the babies/children’s clothes as the next batch, regardless if there is a time gap.


E.g after you wash the floor cloth, wash the curtain first or the sofa covers first. Then maybe the jeans or jackets. After a few washes, then do the babies/children’s clothes. I maintain such a routine so that the washer has a few rinses already before it launders my childs clothes.

I donno why but I am kinda of upset when I saw the quote. Perhaps because I make tremendous effort to keep the home clean and tidy... But I do know osim doesn't mean anything else except to encourage us to spend more time with our children.

I don't quite agree with this quote. I believe a clean home is essential for children to grow up in. Tidiness will teach the children about being orderly. I get great satisfaction whenever

- my child tells someone,\" my mummy cleans the floor,scrub my clothes/shoes, do the housework.
- friends/teachers commented my child's white clothes/uniform/shoes are very clean (I scrub them when necessary).
- friends and parent in laws compliment my clean and tidy home, in particular, when mil compared mine to her daughter's home :evil:

So I do see value in maintaining a home that is always ready for guests. But, as I am a ftwm and I value my time with my family, I don't break my back over fingerprints on my wall mirror or dust on the exterior window panes.
