          chloecube:

the rectancle of the lenght is 3 times its breadth.

the area of the rectangle is 363cm2. what is the perimeter?

by guess and check, i found the the lenght and breadth is 33 by 11cm. but is there a method to do this other than mine?
cos my method can be rather time consuming.

          Hi

For this P4 question, it’s not too tedious to use “GC”.

Students are likely to start with an area of 300.

This gives a length of 30 cm and a breadth of 10 cm.

Move forward another step, you’ll get the answer.

An alternative, represent the breadth by 1 unit or 1 box if you prefer MD.

          Area of rectangle ----- 1u * 3u

          u*u ------ 263/3 ------- 121

          From here, u ----- 11 (11*11 = 121,from timetable)

          You may continue from here.

          Hope this helps.

          Best wishes

I was thinking ... If length is 3X breath, we can divide the rectangle into 3 squares. So, area of each square is 363/3 = 121 cm2. So which number multiplied by itself is 121? Ans. 11 cm. if breath is 11, length is 3 X 11 etc....

            Let me try ...

            2 plants for every 4m and 5 lanterns for every 6m. So for every 12m (lowest common multiple of 4 & 6), there will be 2 X 3 plants and 5 X 2 lanterns. Guess & check :
            Length........ 12m....24m....36m....48m....60m....72m
            Plants..........6.........12......18.......24.......30......36
            Lanterns.......10.......20......30.......40.......50.....60

Therefor if the corridor is 72m long, there will be 24 more lanterns th an plants.

            Cheers!

:imanisland: :imanisland: Needs help with the following 2 Maths questions: :thankyou:

                1) A basket can hold either exactly 5 apples or exactly 15 eggs. If there are 3 apples and 2 eggs in the basket now, how many more eggs can the basket hold?

                2) Brenda, Belinda and Bernice each bought some lollipops.
Brenda put all her lollipops in a jar.
Belinda put 13 lollipops into the same jar.
Bernice then put in more lollipops and the number of lollipops in the jar doubled.
After they took out 37 lollipops to eat, there were 23 lollipops left in the jar.
How many lollipops did Brenda buy?

                  Hi

                  1 apple ------ 3 eggs

                  3 apples ------- 9 eggs

                  9 + 2 ----- 11

                  15 - 11 ------ 4

                  Best wishes

                    Let me try 🙂
A basket can hold either exactly 5 apples or exactly 15 eggs
---> 1 apple is equivalent to 3 eggs.
                    Therefore 3 apples ---- 9 eggs.
                    15 - 9 - 2 = 4 more eggs can be placed in the basket.

                    [---Brenda----][13][---Brenda----][13]
                    <--37---------------------><---left23->
                    Therefore 2 units = 37 +23 - 13 -13 = 34
                    1 unit = 17
                    brenda bought 17 lollipops.
