Even for tingxie, the grade in included in the overall assessment, the teacher will revise with the students, the one I know lah, not sure if it’s for all the classess, so as long as the student pay attention, will be able to pass tingxie without parents’ help.

Chance upon this thread only today. And because I read this today (not any earlier), I believe my child would be able to do it when he is in primary one. If I read thus earlier, I would Have been so shocked that the standard of primary one has been so high these days…


Yesterday I happened to do a review with one of my child’s teachers. She showed me a recent piece of written work by my child. I almost flipped off the chair. My child, together with the rest of the class, was made to write their thoughts after a recent excursion to the eggs farm. After the write up, the selected children are supposed to do a show (drawing) and tell ( based on the written assignment).

Needless to say, the purpose of the review was to tell me - my child "cannot make it". But guess what? My child is only four!!! It was not a bashing session, just to remind me to get my child to practice writing more often. But I also flipped because… Eh come on, my child is only four!

So if this type of training continues, I am quite sure my child can do this assignment when he is in pri 1.

There are BASC. From the various sharing of mummies who send their kids to BASC, I learned that the teachers will revise work with the kids and even ask them to buy assessment books that the teachers will go through with them too. Though for s&t, I'm not sure if BASC helps in this.[/quote]sorry.. what is BASC?

If they're not graded, then I think it's not a big issue to me. Whether they're able to do a decent show-n-tell or not, the teacher will be there to guide them and help the weaker ones (with ref to SAHM_TAN's post).There'll be some that are better, others not so. Anyway, it's just an exposure for the kids to learn \"presentation\" in front of an audience.
