      hquek:
Maids are only humans, I also slack a bit sometimes when it comes to work. When that happens, I'll just remind her what needs to be done. But I draw the line if she's not receptive to feedback (ie show black face or totally dun give me face when I'm telling her), or if she's rude to my mum, or guilty of worst things (polluting our food/drinks, stealing, cruelty).

Generally ok if she comes to tell me upfront what she spoilt - won't ask her to pay, but I get really angry if I have to find out for myself (cos I feel she's lying to me).
I fully agree with you maids are also humans. Like you, if my maid comes uo to me and confess honestly her mistake, I will let her off. I will definitely feel upset if i have to find out myself or if my maid has tons of excuses to cover her act.

Questions for all experienced Maid employers:

A maid of mine who has worked for me for the past 7 years just sms me asking me if she can borrow some money.

During her course of working for me, she has been trained to auto-pilot everything that I really dont have to worry the household chorus (cooking to housekeeping).

During her last contract, she asked for a yearly leave (instead of usual bi yearly)n return ticket. Thats when she found a husband and didn’t come back as agreed.

She did sms to apologize. After almost 2 years, she gave me this sms asking if she can borrow money.

            Would you borrow?

Personally I wont lend money to maid. They should earn for it, just like us who are working for our employers. Imagine we ask money from our boss, what will happen?

                Hi BerriMore1

If she is still working for you? If not then how she is going to repay you.

My pressent maid have asked for advance pay (2 time) which i have agree as the amount is not big, reason she give is acceptable (once is the mother need to see doctor urgently, the other was the daugther going to start school need to buy thing) and most important is she is still working for me also if i dun give her i am worry she will keep worrying not able to concenrate wokring or even worse borrow money from outside and create problem later.

My pervious maid also did ask for advance pay which i did not give her as her reason is the husband and children have no food to eat. Not that i am heartless to see her children suffer but if your children really suffer will you still use your pay to buy the not necessary thing in singapore den go and ask for loan to send back? That why i did not lend to her.

Whether to lend or not i think it depend on a lot of fact. You have know her for so many year, yourself are in a better position to say whether is it worth to lend her the money.

                  Hi Berrimore,

If I am you, I will not lend money to my ex-maid.
If I read your input correctly, this maid is no longer employed by you.

By the way, she did not leave in a good note, She did not honour her promise to you.
So how can you be sure that she will keep her word and return you the money?

So, since she is no longer with you, sever all ties with her cos if there is a first time, there will be more.

                  Regards,
                  Kiasimom

She is no longer employed by me. However, if I do want to employ her is she wants to work for me.

If I were to borrow her money, that means I have to TT the money to her account. Hope of getting the money back will be Truly very slim lah as you said she is already desperate in needs of money have to Borrow from me and not from her own fellows in Indonesia so how is she going to repay…

Some more now she is married . She could be good and was good but dont know how is her husband.

I feel like lending her the money in hopes that she will come back to work for me in future but what if she borrows money is to get out of country so she can work in Hong Kong or Taiwan then I become the duh.

Many thanks for the sharing of your views!!

                      Hi Berrimore,

I will still advise you not to lend her the money.
Even if she agrees to work for you, she can change her mind at the last minute and there's nothing you can do.

If she is really sincere in working for you, she will still come to work for you even if you never lend her the money.

Neighbour kept giving clothes etc to their maid, so now the maid wanna send all the stuff back yet she hasnt paid her debt. I saw the box, wabiang, I can even hide inside!

Off tangent a bit, I’m going Batam for short trip, if I bring my filipino maid along I dont have to apply visa or anything for her right?
