They are free to have different business models, market positioning (catering to different segments of the market).

I'd like to please clarify that I did not write my long post because I \"snapped.\" Because we have never met and you do not know me, it may have seem so. But to my cyber (referring to those who have met me and keep in touch with me regularly via sms and meet ups) and personal friends, I am not known as the sort of person who \"snaps.\" And even if I

I wrote it because I wanted to set the record straight on my part and allow those who wish to, to ponder upon my views. And no, lest you think now you have 'offended' me by using the word, let me assure you that you have not like I said, I just want to clarify this and set the record straight.

There may be wrong on both sides, Chen. But I can also say that if you
read the posts closely, you will notice that some SAY it as some SEE it . No maliciousness, no false sweetness, no hidden agenda behind the words.

Some of us do not feign ignorance when pushed to a corner.

Some of us do not even impose our views when we cross over to other
threads (not referring to the assignment one) and try to influence those who may not REALLY be aware of what this discussion is all about. I am beginning to understand what vk meant when he mentioned something to the effect of information not reflecting the true scenario when we post
sweeping statements (my interpretation, not quoting from him) in one of his many posts.

BTW, I have grown to appreciate vk's style of writing and I reckon I am beginning to understand limlim's too.

It's a Very long document , but it's does raise many of the issues discussed in these pages, frpom a global perspective. Unfortunately, it does not offer solutions ... But at least, know that we are not lone with this problem. Even countries like Canada, Australia and U.K. are grappling with this phenomenon called tuition.

Yes wonderm I think pre-u and universities can set high admission standards. Not everyone can or should qualify for university. As for secondary schools I'm not so sure. IMHO 12 yr olds are really not all mature enough to think for themselves and about their future clearly.

I also believe that healthy competition among children is good. We mustn't emulate the public US elementary school system where everyone wins and no one loses kind of system. It would definitely encourage a hardworking child if he were to be acknowledged for good performance. Another award which was given out in my DD's old school was a peer-elected award for character. Qualities like empathy, kindness towards peers should be rewarded with equal importance.
