13 pages and only 3 or 4 posts actually attempt to answer peapot's intended question.

And where is peapot? Wonder if she tried squeezing or shaking or stroking.....
      She's looking for plan B..

Actually, sometimes.. it's best to let nature run it's course.. if there are males in the pond, they'll do what they're supposed to do..

Even if peapot managed to squeeze out the eggs \"manually\" (shaking, watever..).. how is she going to fertilize it?

sometimes.. it is better not to take things into their own hands.. whichever hand..

Yup yup, nature takes care of its own. Better not to meddle.

You know what you guys suggested?

                1) sent the fish for a pet scan.
                2) turn the fish into Sashimi on the dinner plate.
                3) feed it with ecstasy pills.
                4) borrow someone’s hand OR head to rub the fish’s head.
                5) leave the fish alone. If there’s eggs, means all is well. Bingo. Female! If nothing’s happening, the fish is a constipated male.
                6) shake the fish tail real hard.
                7) bring the fish to a vet.
😎 one kid suggested google, another says he is better off finding Nemo.

How hah? So much for expert advice!!

I have decided to check with the fish farm this weekend. Thanks for the great interest in my fish…

Take a good look at the fish that you think is pregnant. Actually, Koi fish don't get 'pregnant', and aren't 'live-bearers'. But, they do look fatter when they have eggs developing- usually in the spring or summer. Does the fish look fatter than the other fish in the pond? Does it look fatter, or does it look bloated?

                    2
Look at the behaviour of your other Koi fish. When female Koi have developed eggs, they have to be pushed out of her body. Usually this means that the males will chase her around and essentially bash her against the sides of the pond. When she expells her eggs, the males can then fertilize them. They can get quite aggressive about this, and it can go on for hours- even days. it's possible your female can get hurt. It isn't uncommon to have Koi fish actually leap out of the pond during this activity. So, observe your fish. Are a lot of the fish chasing one fish? Are they pushing the fish against the sides of the pond? Is your fish swimming slower than normal?

[quote]A koi cannot become pregnant. They lay eggs. A female koi is verv fat, especially when full of eggs. This is usually in the summer. They also tend to have shorter noses. The males develop white spots called gill tubericules when they sense it is time to mate. However, one can know that the female is full of eggs by ligtly rubbing her sides towards her anus. DO NOT SQEEZE THE FISH!! Eggs will come out. Really the best sign is that the males are chasing her all over the place and smashing her into the sides of the pond. BE VERY CAREFUL! Many people have lost fish who leap from the pond in the dead of night. Check the pond regularly. Check it in the middle of the night! If you want to have any baby fish left, be sure to put in some grass mats or hiding places. Koi eat eggs and their own young. Go to the website koivet.com
