Heard from my friend that there are some restrictions in number of PV for popular schools.

Anyone can shed some light on this topic. Any such schools in Bukit Panjang?

Schools have free hand in running the PV, they decide the numbers to take in, how to select, the number of hours, the type of jobs, etc etc

our schools here only limited to 30 PVs.

The P has to consider ourside factors such as Grassroot Leaders, Clan/society/church members.

            Hello Chief,

Im new here and would greatly need to seek your advise and help.

My dd was born in 2008. Do you know what are the considering factors when the principal shortlist those who intend to do PV? Im a SAHM, will this affects my chances for being shortlist as a PV?

Awaiting for your reply and advise.

            Many thanks!

Hi rainn_77, :welcome: to the forum šŸ˜„

For PV applications, different schools have different requirements and needs. Some schools require specialised skill sets (e.g. IT programming, multimedia, etc.) while other schools require parents to help out with their regular / ad-hoc school activities (e.g. traffic wardens, library readings, fun fairs, etc.). If you already have in mind which are the school(s) you will like to consider enrolling your DD in, you could call up the schools to check if they are accepting PVs, and if they do, what kind of activities they will like the PVs to be involved in.

Being a SAHM does have its advantages, cos' you have the flexibility to commit more hours for different type of PV activities as compared to other parents who may need to juggle their work and PV concurrently

                Hello Chief,

Many thanks for the advises and I'm so gladly console that being a SAHM have an advantage too! šŸ™‚

Chief, I'm staying at Tampines and my intention is to do PV to get a place in the following school. However I do not know whether should I send in all 4 applications or should just send in 1 school at a time. From your experience and expertise, which should would I stand a higher chance?

                1) White Sands within 1km
                2) Gongshang Pri 1km to 2km (desired Sch)
                3) Pasir Ris Pri 1km to 2km
                4) Chongzheng Pri Sch 1km to 2km

Many thanks and await for your kind advise! šŸ™‚

My humble opinion is that you should send in to all 4 schools cause just because you send in your application, you migth not be chosen to do PV. after you get the notification, you can still decide if you wish to go ahead or else no chance for other schools. Different school have different timeline for PV application so find out from school directly and early.

                    Hello Chief,

Many thanks for the advises and elaboration. Now I have a much in depth on how the system is like. Starting to feel the stress!!! šŸ˜ž
I have seen called up the school in Pasir Ris, they have asked me to write a CV on the contributing factors which I can made to the school. I was flabbergasted! Can I ask how should I begin the CV? Are there any sample which u can advise me? Din know that applying a PV is so much similar as job hunting.

                        Dear rainn_77

No worries, I have benefitted a lot from this forum, and we are all here to help one another. I'm also learning myself cos' I have a DD going to P1 in 2014 as well šŸ˜„

As to PV being like job hunting, it's not exactly uncommon, for myself, on top of filling up an application form, I had to draft a proposal on what areas I can contribute to the school. I still got rejected by the school anyway  , but thank goodness I was accepted as a PV by another school . Like Lilfeets had mentioned, it'll be good to send in your application to the various schools you are considering, so as to be able top give yourself more options for PV.

One of the factors you may like to consider is the balloting history of the schools as well. Some schools require balloting at Phase 2B already, so if you are not within the 1km range, chances are, even if you clock in more than the stipulated number of PV hours (do note for some schools, it's more than 40 hours), it's not a 100% guarantee you will get into the school. But from the looks of this year's registration, the 4 schools that you have shortlisted are not over-subscribed at Phase 2B, so if you are able to secure PV for either of the 4 schools, and clock the hours required, your chances should be quite safe.
