I called rvps and was told that within 2km no balloting needed. That means I got a place in it. But I am in two minds as I am afraid that the stress level is high there. I am actually considering pulling out and try my luck on zhangde pri or cantonment pri. My impression is that these 2 schools not so stressful.

Any parents can shed some light on the stress level of rvps? I heard that rvps stream the kids every year base on their results, meaning they may not be in the same class with their friends. Is this true?

          Hi Erichew,

My personal opinion is sometimes a little bit of stress for the child is good. What it takes is good parenting support i.e. going through the education journey together with the kid. With a supportive companionship, I am sure the kids will appreciate education. The thing to learn is to stand up again after taking knocks. Never be afraid to make mistakes, it is learning from it that matters most. I am a young parent and still learning from it. Good luck and congrats to your successful balloting!

            Hi parents

I managed to get a place for next yrs P1 at rvps via P2B. Worried about the school bus price as well as the distance. Dun wanna my daughter tour around the area before reaching school.
Anyone parents have kids going P1 also? Any suggestion to the school bus issue?

              Hi Erichew

We are happy that our daughter will be at River Valley Primary! Congrats to you too!

I like RVPS. I've had the chance to meet with students from this school before. They appeared well mannered and respectful, and they looked cheerful and happy. I agree totally with the earlier post that parental support in emotional development and character building for our children is extremely important. I believe parents and teachers can and must work closely together to determine the best programme for our child. This will also mean adjusting our targets and expectations at times.

About the school bus, you can send in an online query:
              http://www.pohleetransport.com.sg/contact-us.html

We found out that the school bus is not even serving the East, much to our disappointment.

By the way, as we are currently overseas I'm afraid that I will miss out on communications for P1 orientation dates and dates for buying books etc. I'll appreciate if any parent post such news here for P1 2013 cohort. Thanks!

              Regards

                Hi hi,

                I am new to RVPS…

Can i ask a few questions???

                1. What are chances of getting a place in RVPS under 2C if ,1km or within 1-2km, based on past history?

                2. At which pri level does school start offering HMT? Is school traditionally strong in MT or HMT?

                Tks

                  Hi parents-trying-out-for-RVPS,

My DS1 is a transfer student from a neighbourhood primary school. He has been with RVPS for 7 months thus far and is now P3.

I must say that RVPS provides a very systematic method of teaching. Its educational curriculum is more balanced and has a better CCA range, as compared to his previous school. The teachers are also more ‘ON’ too. With this school, teachers email and call me up when something goes wrong, compared to only 1 yearly parent-teacher conference in his previous. Sometimes, I email the teacher (from ex-school) but will not get a reply or it’s a week too late. My yearly PTC is pretty vague with his ex-school’s teachers too, I ask how my son is doing, has he been handing in work etc? They would look at me with a blank face and tell me everything is fine, child progressing well, attendance is fine. Another thing I like about RVPS: the children here go for swimming lessons and have their own shower rooms! (not that DS1 is deprived of swimming with us, but I can see the school’s effort in ensuring the child plays and works hard) When DS1 came back to tell me this, I was simply impressed. His ex-classmate he met at a bus stop thought DS1 was lying when he asked why DS1 carries 2 bags - schoolbag and swim bag. Also, they have CCAs during school, and they don’t take up extra time after school hours (unless I think for school teams). To me, there’s a good balance in work and sports. And he had HMT this year at P3, in his previous school, he’ll never get a change to get exposed.

For stress level, yes, I’m very stressed up. I think my boy is too, because the teachers are so ‘ON’ that they will call me if he doesn’t submit his work, didn’t attend enrichment class. I’m even emailing his HMT teacher daily for his HW. I didn’t have such complaints in his previous school, not because he does his work (I realised he doesn’t do HW since P1), but because the ex-teachers basically didn’t really care to imform us - parents. He has been top 5 in class since P1, in RVPS P3, he came in 4th for mid-year. But, he still doesn’t hand in his work. Sometimes, the stress level is pretty high to make sure he completes his school work and hand in already overdue homework. But other than that no/late homework hand-in (I don’t blame the school), I would say it is a very good school to get in.

There is alot to unlearn from his old school habits since he got away ‘scot-free’ for 2 years. Though there is stress, yes, but I’m simply glad he changed school. And I am very, very lucky that the school took him in, giving him a change to take HMT though he has no HMT foundation in P1&2 years.

To parents who have gotten a place in school, Congrats!
