that is worse than RI year 2's time table : tuesday dismisses at 13:50 and Friday at 12:30. those without optional merit cca literally goes home at 12:30

Dont the pupils need to stay bk for their core cca on friday's afternoon?
Or how many times per wk for core cca?
My gal never gets bk so early even she was in Yr 1.

Hi Augmum,

My DS (Sec-1) goes home at 12.30 on Fridays (except when he needs to stay back in school for group projects), as he does not take up any merit CCA. He stays back in/ goes to school twice a week for his core CCA (Wed & Sat).

So, apart from Tuesdays (3rd Lang) and Wednesdays (CCA) when DS comes home about 6+7+, he is home rather early (3+4+) on most days of the week (Friday being the earliest about 1+).. šŸ˜„
thanks for answering

11. Creative Arts/ Performing Arts

All examinable subjects including performing arts.

:yikes: :faint:
some schools using Lit as EL, renamed the combined subject English Language Art, using the standard lit text

history and geog are not concurrent for lower sec, semester 1/2 for either one

D&T and F&B are also alternating between semester 1/2

some schools also have Philosophy (examinable), research education, CLE (character and leadership education)etc

those gradable for GPA are only 6 : ELA, MT, MA, SC, History & Geog

But are the above ALL CORE subjects which are needed for the computation of their academic results ?
usually only subj 1-7 are the core subj, the rest though examinable subj, but not included in the computation.

Yes, the subjects in the above list are considered all core subjects. It includes in the computing of the overall score and if one is at Sec 2, it will affect the streaming for Sec 3. Guess, school wants to emphasize that the arts and life skills are just as important as the sciences.

The school does rotate Art, F&N and D&T amongst the 4 terms. So, for these 3 subjects, not all at the same time.

As for CCA, my advice to my girls is to choose a CCA that they are interested and passionate about. At least, they will pick up a skill and enjoy doing it. I did not want to tell them to pick the \"easiest\" or less demanding CCA. Dont want to give them the impression that we shd take the easy way out in life.

It's really all about self-discipline and time management in sec sch

Do they really need to learn soooooo much things?
How to be happy like that? No time to relax.
Can fail some ?? Or maybe borderline pass?
looks a lot, but the variety adds to the fun and open their mind to education as more than merely math & sci and EL & MT ..... they sure have more fun intellectually

Neighbour's son has one day school ends at 1230, but he has CCA till 6 or 7 pm. Cousin's son is hardly home before 4 when he was in Sec 1. Practically no life in secondary school...very much worst. After a long day, homework still must completed before sleeping.

Food and nutrition and design and technology, both girls and boys need to take up both subject? Or is it girl take up food and nutrition and boy takes up design and technology?

I know in some schools the boys also do food and nutrition, and good at it!
The earliest DS3 comes home is 430pm which is once a week, the rest of the day is 6pm or even later when there's CCA. As he's taking 8 subjects for O level next year, the additional subject is scheduled after normal school hours, i.e. about an hour lunch before pm session. When he's home he just want to relax. :frustrated:

He's required to go back to school at least once a week during the long holidays for extra courses, training etc. He hates it cos he believes that sch holidays should mean holidays.
He's also serving in church every Saturday which entitles him CIP points. However, he's more than enough CIP points but still continue to serve as he likes it.
Next year, being O level year, he'll be required to attend night classes in school. :lightrod:
Don't mention the word \"tuition\" to him cos to him it's a dirty word. I'm worried how's he going to sit for his O level. :gloomy:
He's confident but I never see him studying at all. :slapshead: :slapshead: All I can do is šŸ™ šŸ™ šŸ™

But what I heard from one of my friends whose 2 sons attending RI is different lei. She told me RI is something like DS3's school. Maybe different subjects, CCA etc? DS3's history teacher just changed his lessons to Monday so instead of coming home at 230pm (earliest for the week) he's coming home at 4pm till further notice.
Having said that, DS3 is confident that his teachers cover the syllabus and said he'll do his 'reading' (note not studying) if his teachers 'can't' teach. :nosebleed: :faint:
some of it are really up to the individuals.

some of the kids may arrange to stay back together to complete the project together instead of communication from home on facebook

they learn to work as a team and also how to deal with less effective or less productive team members

they even arrange for sleep over to do projects .....

my DS wanted to take only one core CCA but ended up with added on another 3.5 merit CCAs, plus in the school team for one of the sports .... we all laughed at him .... but he learns to cope and still gets up every morning looking forward to school

On the contrary, secondary school is FULL of life.. The child gets to meet so many new people, learn so many new things, handle so many new experiences.. How can it be ''no life''?? 🤷

And, not home before 4 does not mean ''no life''.. It simply means that life has extended beyond the 'home', for the child... šŸ˜‰

It makes a whole world of difference when a child is motivated and is passionate about what he / she is learning / doing in school.
