      Hi all

Not sure if you have any concern on the school hours this year, after trying out for two terms, I have decided to voice my concern and wrote a letter to the principals. If any of you donโ€™t feel that the school should continue the current school hour, can I request you to also write or call the school to let them know? Thank you.

        Hi rejoice,

I have ever spoken to one of the teacher regarding the long school hour and she told me that the school is looking into it. I think some parents did highlight their concern to the school. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.

          Hi Cmum,

Thanks for the update. Mdm Chua (the principal) also replied that the school is reviewing the hour. Hope that they will avoid keeping the kids at school for too long next year :-). But we need more voices so hope that more parents will give feedback.

            Hi Rejoice,

Actually i am getting used to the new hours now. To revert back to old timing will need another round of adjustment...haha. But i am fine, as long as school can manage it well. ๐Ÿ˜„

CA coming soon, another round of preparation and stress... ๐Ÿ˜‰

            cheers,
            astee

              Hi Astee,

Thanks for sharing. After two terms, I noticed my DSโ€™ "engine" is getting slower and slower :-(. Not sure because of the strain built-up from the long hours or from the not-too-healthy-lunch from mommy :-p. But lately he has more days when he could not finish his lunch though he brought packed lunch daily. There were days when the teacher dismissed them late for them to have time for lunch too. So hopefully the hours can be adjusted such that may be 30mins added to the previously 1pm dismissal hour so they will be dismissed at 1:30pm before lunch time, or stay for additional 2hours in one of the day for PAL only. Hope the school can work out something.

Hi mummies, I am keen to send DD1 into this school but did not get to find out about their approach to the languages. Can anyone share for P1, is there any reading programme to support reading for both EL and MT? That means are they banded according to reading ability during reading class? Or no graded reading classes at all? For MT, Iโ€™m concerned my child may not follow as itโ€™s her weakest subject. Anyone send for CL enrichment or what is done in school is satisfactory?

                  Hi Beauty79,

Welcome to the forum and good to hear that you are keen to send your DD to TGPS. ๐Ÿ˜„

For P1 children who need a little extra help in EL and MT, the school has what its call a Learning Support Program. It supports children in the different subjects. Also the school has a dedicated team of staff and PSG who run a reading program for those who need it.

For P1 MT classes, the child is grouped according to their MT Literacy capability. I believe the teacher group them based on their CA1/SA1 results. Most of the parents will have the same concern as MT is usually not a favourite subject of the child. :nailbite:

There are quite a handful of CL enrichment centres around this area, you can look around and ask for parent's opinion. They are Tien Hsia, Berries, Hua Language Center and Han, just to name a few.

Good Luck to your registration exercise.

                  Regards,
                  Astee
