And when will the govt realized that lots of parental involvement and guidance is essential not only for the 1st 6mth or 1st 7 years… But for at least 12years until they complete PSLE and pursue secondary education and learn to be more independent…

      Need more pro-family policies… not only pro-labor…

Personally, i already have difficulties clearing my AL and childcare leave. Most companies (even MNCs) do not want to engage temp help when staff is on maternity leave. So who suffer?

Agreed. For example, in many countries, public transport rides for children are FOC. But in Singapore, the ridiculously low height limit of 0.9M is set.

When govt increases childcare subsidy, operators increase the school fees correspondingly. End up parents don't enjoy any savings from the subsidy at all! Assume $500 monthly fees (after subsidy). If a couple have 4 children, this will amount to $2K per month. The mummy must earn at least $3.5K, else it makes no economical sense for her to work.

The increase in cost of running a childcare is real. Rent, staffing, daily expenses. If in your household you find your grocery and provision bills going up, so will a childcare since they provide meals as well. These increases have to go somewhere, some operators with more scruples may absorb some and pass on some to parents, others with less scruples will pass them on to parents and yet others with no scruples at all will take the chance to not only pass to parents but make a buck or two out of it.

Maybe another way to help manage childcare cost will be for govt to subsidise rent for childcares and also rebates for staff CPF but with the condition that the fees for each child registered remains the same until they leave/graduate. Any increase in fees are applicable only to new registrants and this increase can only be done once a year, capped at 10%.

            But off topic liao lah.

Sounds good to me 🙂 Something achievable, something not overly demanding and also, something for both married and single parent families.

What is the point of increasing the number of leaves, when childcare centres can closed any time for \"cleaning-up centres\", staffs' meetings etc and not following the holidays' schedule? Working parents got to take leaves also to suit the timing when childcare centres not opened on the particular days.

And also with the current number already extra days of childcare leaves compared to last time, I think couples also not really much \"encourage\", so giving another few more extra leave, I doubt will help much.

Agreed... don't think is easy to balance both working and family life. 🤷

                  Favourite interview questions:

If you are not married --> do you have plans to get married?
If you are married but without kids --> do you have plans to give birth? When?
And the next question will be ---> what are your childcare arrangements?

Yes, I asked those questions in the past too.
do you have plans to give birth? When?

 How to answer this question? Ask who? What answer does the interviewer want?

In my opinion, that is precisely the reason why couples don't want children... We need more pro-family policies.

Wouldn't additional childcare leave help in this case? Childcare centres are allowed to close another 5.5 days which rightfully most centres will inform parents of the planned closure dates at the start of the year. Parents can use their childcare leave for such matters.

Not so easy to increase birth rate lah. If so easy, all those countries that experienced the problems before us would have solved it by now. But since govt is looking into ways and means, good opportunity to look into better benefits right? But be realistic lah. Cos whatever we ask for, at the end of the day, sure will have some trade off somewhere.

So kids sick then how? No more leave to cover except take own annual leave? When my kid sick, usually at least 1 whole week MC from school.

Should try look for other solutions instead, since not much working? Just my thoughts.
