All about Transferring to Other Primary Schools

Wa.. that sounds quite serious ... any idea how the other parents in your dd class feels about it or they just feel it is ok as their child are \" not so clever \" ?Exp :
Best class gets senior teachers/ HOD vs DD's class gets young teachers even needs to go for NIE trainning/ attend courses. So very often will see teacher on leave.
Best class gets more others exposure / technics on problem sums solving, vs
DD's class ONLY taught base on school My Pal Maths text Book + 5 problem sums a week, which is very little to handle sch exam questions which came out questions / solving technics that they never expose before. THEY HAD NOT BEEN TAUGHT BUT TESTED ON THE SAME SET OF PAPER THAT GIVEN TO HA CLASSES.
DD no need tuitions in p1p2, now we had to get tuitions in order to learn what has miss out in school. :moneyflies:
School will send HA students for external competitions, exp SMOS, even they had not practising , teacher said let them gain experience. Vs my DD's class had not even asked / told about it, although my DD had been practising on MO, she missed the opportunity.
I find school has this mentality, if you are in MA class, YOU CAN'T MAKE IT. DON'T WASTE TIME. JUST LEARN WHATEVER IN TEXT BOOKS. -
50% of my DD class are transfred students. so there are 2 groups of different ability students in a class. One ~ HA students score band 1 results ( that was the requirement for intake ,90% and above) Another One~ low ability students score range 20% -60% ++
Teacher cannot teach fast/ more due to the wide gaps between the 2 groups.
1st group will find bored in class, things too easy, little HW. My DD ask for home school ,feel learn more at home, waste time in school. many times ask to stay at home. DD used to be aggressive , fast learning momentum in p1p2. Now everything take it slow and easy , which i worried. I feel that 1st group of parents don’t involve/ bother much in sch, but send their DDs to tuition classes even they are good. There is competition among the transfered students, fighting a place to HA class.
2nd group of students / parents complaint too much HW, children cannot complete Hw in times. Sometimes never do HW, sometimes never learn Spellings or TingXie, teacher got to postpone the test. That made 1st group of parents upset, because it delay the progress. Feel that 2nd group of parents very pampered their children.
So I had give up ! Told my DD, don’t depend on school, lets work hard ourselves. -

yes...have to factor in the 'risk of potential top class student not getting into top class after transfer'.
those going transfer-route, have to ask yourself, if u know your kid will not get into HA class, will u still effect the transfer? it is a very tough decision to make. even for transfer students taking up vacancies left by out going P3-GEP-kids, it is up to the sch policy to fill in these gaps with their existing HA secondtop class students or let transfer students fill it in, or line up all the scores and reallocate (some schs stream every year while some stream every 2 years at end P2 and end P4 only). go and ask the school for advice on their policy before jumping ship.
as pointed out by other parents here, unless parents are looking at the preferred school offering ccas that your kid is already excelling in (ie benefit child), affiliation benefits(ie benefit child), priority registration for younger siblings (erm....and if u want to consider grandchildren's priority also hor :faint:...)(ie benefit parents and siblings), proximity(ie benefit all, although some kids don't mind the distance because they get chauffeured everyday)....these are 'solid' benefits that u stand to gain regardless of class allocation of your transferred kid, transferring at end of p4, at P5, there are possibilities that your kid may be allocated to and remain in MA class until psle. best to consult the kid's opinion on this too as they need to know what's coming up for them.
with so much considerations and uncertainties of decision to be made wrt to transferring of school, it is no wonder P1 registration is a very hot event every year.

Email them half yearly to seek updates on vacancies n also update them of your child's achievement if any.
More vacancies in p3 could be cos p3 bigger class eg if intake 210 with 7 p1 class of 30, when go p3, class size increase to 40 per class, they can take in another 30 more students eg 6classesof40students. -
My daughter is studying Primary one. We were so unlucky that we were not able to successful in ballotting and has to put her in the school which is within 2km from our home. Then we applied for waiting list in the school just opposite to our home where we were unsuccessful in ballotting. Is there any chances that If i do PV now, that i will be able to secure a place for her in that school or any other way i can transfer her in that school… please advice…

u cannot join pv of the sch your girl is not currently in as your girl already going to start P1 next year (or already in P1 this year?).
some schs give their vacancies to people on the waitlist according to queue number, some schs look at academic/other achievement when they allocate vacancies, some schs look at reasons cited for transfer (proximity etc).
u can still keep in close contact (via phone/email reminder every term etc) to let the sch know you are still keen, hoping that you are the first few lucky ones to be offered the seat.
and u can also focus on your kid's journey at the current school, helping her excel in, settle in her school as any achievement (be it level of self confidence, academic pursuit, skills acquisition) will not only help when sch pick waitlist applicants based on achievement, it will also help your daughter's growth as a whole. -
Ok im being super kiasu but… then, we r parents…
2014 - dd will be in p1. My bto flat not ready but i know which school i want dd to go. But distance n transport lead me to enrol her in my alma mater school - phase 2…
2015 - bto flat MUST be ready n want her to get into that school i want which is near my future hkme. Not sap not hot popular school. How to get this as a confirmed school of choice since the moe steps website said they will allocate?
Can i meet up with potential school principal or vp to express interest? If so, when sud that be? I have these planning lay out… sud i even tell the p1 school i wanna trans out? If yes, when will be good idea? And will it affect how the school treat my dd knowing she’ll be there for i.e 8-9mths (minus school holds and whatnot)…
And any parents care to share how kids take the transfer to be… i.e transition period and esp after kinddy move primary then move another primary school… sigh… -

You girl is in P3 right? In my dd school, transfer students are usually placed in a MA class for the first year they transfer in. After that, it depends on the results they achieved in that year. Eg. a transfer student will be placed in MA class in P3, but may move to the HA class in P4 if the child's results in P3 is excellent.50% of my DD class are transfred students. so there are 2 groups of different ability students in a class.
