      Sorry to hijack this thread..

I am still indecisive about which primary school to enrol my kids.
I am deciding whether temasek or opera.

Personally I like the Opera school environment and not Temasek.
But in term of convenience, Temasek is definitely better as compare to Opera which is located at landed area.

I also came to know there will be a student care which will start next year 2013 at Opera. I am a full time housewife and may consider to put my kids at this student care in order to have some peace at home.

Given a choice, will you prefer Temasek or Opera?

Sorry..I am a bit lost and confuse..
yOU'LL BE SUPRISE TO KNOW i'M ACTUALLY FROM oPERA estate primary...
      😄
But i have decided to go for St.Anthony for my girl.
      1) Cos it's extremely near to my house. In cases of emergencies, i'll be able to rush over eg.sick, injured etc. (I'm also a SAHM).
      2) I love Opera to bits!!! But it's definitely further and I have another 3-year old so thinking of the hassles... Ok i better stop thinking else i might change my mind!!!

So, i shall stop thinking now...errrrrrkkk. I have decided... :boogie:

Just checked the MOE website. It is confirmed that SC children have to ballot if they reside outside 2km of the school. http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/balloting/

        I am about 1.2km away..:(

          Mummykatz,

I am worry about dropping my kid off to school. Am sure we not allow to park at the road side for long.

I love opera estate environment . But safety is 1 issue I am worried about. My boy is v hyper. Scare he play along the road side.

No choice… Hope luck is on our side for Temasek.

                    lucasma:
Just received letter from Temasek Primary saying that my application to be a parent volunteer has been rejected. It is really quite disappointing considering that I've made arrangements at work to take time off to volunteer. Schools certainly don't make it easy for working mums to volunteer and have a chance at sending their kids to the school of their choice.

Was hoping to get some guidance from parents in this group.
                    1) How many PVs do the school recruit, on average, every year?
                    2) Will all kids of PVs get into Phase 2B?
                    3) For parents who have been rejected as a parent volunteer, have any of you tried to appeal against the verdict? I am curious to know what is the criteria? Would you be able to share your experience with me?

Thank you very much in advance!

                    Lucas Mummy

My app was also rejected. They only selected 20 PVs this year. It doesn't matter where u stay during the selection. They also selected 2 PRs as PV... (WHAT???) i honestly don't understand that. MOE already implemented SC priority....why they select PR???? and kick SC applicants away?

To be honest, the whole P1 registration policy has to be reviewed again. Phase 2A needs to be reviewed based on SC and distance based. Also, PR should not be in the same phase at all if the intention is to provide benefits for being SC.

It doesnt make sense if the school is just within walking distance to you .... due to lousy policy, you may end up having to send your kids to some school far away and transport will be required. Just don't understand....

Ever since they rejected my application, I’ve been checking with my friends who have kids in primary schools about their experiences. Time and time again, contrary to what I thought, I hear that the popular schools (Temasek Primary being one of them) may not have the best teachers. In fact, I hear that teachers in the popular schools can be very laid-back because the parents tend to send their kids for tons of extra classes.

I am quite lost as to which school I should send L to next year. I live within 1km radius of Temasek Primary but looking at the stats this year (2C results are not out), I will most likely have to ballot esp since there are more births in 2007 as compared to 2006.

The brand and heritage of the school are not important to me. My requirements are simple:
                      1) School that is in Bedok/Marine Parade.
                      2) Teachers who are nurturing and who believe in their students.
                      3) A school that has good progress in PSLE results.

Does anyone know of schools in Bedok/Marine Parade (other than Red Swastika, Tao Nan and Temasek) that fit the above criteria? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

No comments on the other schools, but just to comment on TP…

5 blocks of HDB are en-bloc few years ago, many shifted to linear green, so, competition may be less. Last 1 year or 2, the 5 block are rented out mostly to S Pass or PR families.

With the new policy ion SC priority, SC within 1km shd still have good chance… I guess… bcoz the area around got more landed property and low population density… as compared to sch like RSS.

                        So… SC maybe can try…
