Not sure if there’s energy saving florescent. At home we change ALL bulbs to energy saving bulbs, yes it does make A LOT of difference in the electrical bill.

I am not just looking at saving electricity consumption in this case. It's simply TOO bright. Imagine a space that can fit a king size bed, with 8 florescent tubes! Can you imagine how bright it is?

So we thought of removing some of them to cut the brightness but we wondered about the electricity consumption...

Almost All \"Energy Saving bulbs\" are florescent type, as compared to incandescence ones.

or the same power consumption, F type convert approx 80% to light and 20% to heat, whereas C (filament) type convert 80% to heat (wasted) and 20% to light.

Hence, to achieve the same brightness, one can get a F lamp with lower power consumption and hence lower bills.

That is why it is frequently advertised as energy saving bulb.

And the bulb has got twisted Florescent tubes in it.

Oh, by the way, if your place is air-con…


By generating less heat, your air con no need to "work so hard", and that could explain for the "huge" savings… not just bills relating to lighting alone. If fact, if you replace with F bulbs of similar wattage, there would be no saving in lamp bills at all… just brighter illumination.

florescent tubes used to be more energy efficient than bulbs


then came the energy saving bulbs (made from twsited / spiral florescent tubes)

now the "in" thing is LED lighting which is truly energy saving - and more durable than the flourescent tubes

Spoke to some LED industry people a couple of yrs ago n they told me although LED uses less energy than fluorescent, the saving is not that significant, and led is relatively much more expensive now.

that was a few years ago in terms of pricing, now is totally different; and most LED last more than 10 years

for energy consumption, it depends which salesmen talk to you. better do some own research first
