All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers

I wld like to know what's with the hype of parents sending their children for piano lessons when they know it is expensive and can be hard to learn and their kids may give up halfway?
As parents, if we could, we would want expose as many activities to our child. To give them a chance to explore and to see where their interests are. Without even trying, how do you know they will find it hard and give up halfway?
For us, we started her with a Casio Keyboard (planning to sell it) and have since bought a digital piano as the keyboard no longer can serve the purpose as DD moves on. If she were to show that she has no interest when playing the keyboard we would have stopped her.
I don't think it's any hype. Music allows anyone to relax and destress. Learning piano can also be a skill set in the future. If you are stressed seein parents sending their children to learn piano and are wondering if you should do the same, that's what you will call it \"hype\" but not for me.
By the way this was the reason why I have chosen ANZCA and not ABRSM. Anzca will expose students to different type of music and not just classical ones. Students can choose to learn and play any music, including pop, jazz, even music from Korean drama (teacher will not object to it as the basic reason for learning any instrument is to be able to play what you like) .
Note: I have seen parents forcing their child to practice etc. if there is no interest, there is no point in learning. -

Hi All,
I am looking for a good female piano teacher to come to my place, 3 mins from CCK MRT to teach my daughter for grade 6 piano.
If anyone has a good piano teacher in this area, kindly recommend to me? thanks a lot! -
Hi everyone. I previously worked in the finance industry (SGX and hedge fund), but have decided to do my own startup. As such, I am thinking of teaching piano in my available time as I have always been passionate about classical music. I can teach composition too (NWC and Finale software) as I compose every now and then. I do own a good piano (Sauter PURE 2000 Noble with ebony keyboard from Steinway & Sons), and I would definitely want the students to come to my place since I believe a good piano nurtures a student’s playing.
My question is, where do I find my first batch of students and how much should I charge them?
These are my piano credentials:
Former Yamaha STPC student (young prodigy programme for selected students), 1993
Former student of Prof. Ying Shi Zhen, 1993
Former student of Mrs Marie Hong, LRSM (concert pianist teacher), 1995
NYP Piano Ensemble Coach, 2005
Cristofori Piano Rectial, 2006
C. Bechstein/Cristofori Piano Recital, 2006
Composition: Sonata Rondo for Two Pianos in G major Opus 1 Nr. 1, 2008
Composition: Etude E-Flat Minor Opus 2 Nr. 1 (shortlisted by examiner for ABRSM repetoire), 2010
Many thanks! -
Does anyone know of a good violin or piano teacher who is experienced with sparking musical interest in young children and would be willing to teach in our home in Bukit Timah? I’ve found that retaining interest in music is the number one success factor of a teacher regardless of credentials, so would love to find someone who knows how to work with children in creative ways.

To me music and art are food for the soul. My children do not need to take music exams or win art competitions, but they should know enough to appreciate music (any instrument) and art and to be able to take pleasure in them.
Agree with previous poster that it is unnecessary to prejudge the child's musical ability and interest. It's also not a race. If the child wants to stop for a couple of years and then pick it up again later, that's okay with me too.
Anyway children naturally enjoy producing sounds. With the right pacing and guidance, I believe all children can enjoy learning an instrument. -
