I'm amazed that parents are willing to part with that much money for so called GEP training. Gosh $800/hr ! This is like an entire month salary for the lower income :yikes:
some parents are deluded to think that being charged a high price means must be good, and surprisingly when the child got into GEP (due to his/her own ability rather than anything else), then the parents credit it to the money \"well spent\"...
Kelvin Ong of Aristocare charges $150/hr to $300/hr for GEP preperatory group tuition. And $500/hr to $800/hr for individual tuition.Liarliarpantsonfire:

Those who attended the class could pay (and did pay - otherwise they could not continue)
There are plenty of unqualified tutors out there, but they don't charge an arm and a leg. He demanded such a high price based on his claims of special knowledge (ie. ex-GEP teacher, top school teacher for 12 years), and promises of results (GEP success rate, Olympiad platinum and gold).
this is a wake up call that GE ability could not be trained. if the kids have it, they have it. if not, it is just wasting money and pressuring the kids needlessly. parents should understand why SBGE ends at sec 2. -
Please do not send your kids for GEP training. It’s a program meant for the naturally gifted, not for wannabes. The latter suffer having to get tutored to keep up. I’ve seen some in my daughter’s class like these, it’s a sorry sight …

Kelvin Ong of Aristocare charges $150/hr to $300/hr for GEP preperatory group tuition. And $500/hr to $800/hr for individual tuition. Where did all the money go? Did he pay taxes to IRAS? Did he declare all his income? Did he keep proper accounts? He lie about qualifications he sure lie about his income to IRAS.
Hope IRAS investigate him. Hope MOE investigate him. He refuse to refund our hard earn money.
You can report to Case and also make a PC.
If an advert has misled you into paying for certain services, there are grounds for a refund. Its like if you consulted a doctor specialist and was charged for the consultation/service bec he is a specialist and later found out that he is actually not a specialist. The lawyers in this forum may advise you better. -

I second that. A few of dd's classmates are attending remedial in school for at least 2 to 4 subjects. Kind of an irony to be in GEP and yet attending GEP remedial. Suffer low self-esteem. -
Frankly speaking, I wonder nowadays GEPers are real gifted or not? Or they got in because they've spent $$ for the preparation? :scratchhead:

I never had tuition, other than Chinese tuition. That's because my dad is a Cantonese and my mum is a Teochew, they can't speak Mandarin.
Want to test me?
I signed up for KSP because I hope to dispel the rumours that tuition can buy results in everything, even for the GEP.
Don't send your kids for GEP tuition. If they get into the GEP, struggle and require more tuition to survive, others who got in without tuition and can survive with no problems (like me) won't be sympathetic. -
Forumwriter,
Got no $$ to send & don't want them to suffer unless they prove to be gifted.

Anyway, regarding the AristoCare issue, I believe that Kelvin Ong should be punished. But my feeling is that the government won’t want to get its hands dirty by mounting an official investigation; it’ll just let those cheated parents complain and sue through the judicial process.
As for the parents who got cheated, I hope that they will not be getting any refunds. After all, the government has said time and again that it doesn’t want anyone to train specifically for the GEP.
There is a need to make a point that these parents were cheated willingly: The government already said GEP training is useless; if parents feel that GEP training isn’t useless and it turns out to be so, they can’t complain and seek refunds!
