For CL, my son's conversation topic was on community work...something like 你有做过益公吗?As for EL, pic was on MRT and conversation was the advantages of traveling on MRT.

:yikes: :yikes: if did not do 益公 before, how??!!

I thought schools usually bring students to old folks' home to entertain the old folks & will ask their parents to donate food for them to bring along? If really no such experience, then talk about other people's experience. Worse come to worse, have to use your own imagination. 😓
Thanks Jedamum for sharing the topics. Actually, another way that the kid can mention is that if they did not do community work before (which is highly unlikely because all schools need to do CIP), they can still quote experiences of either family members (eg. siblings, cousins or other adults) who have done community work before and talk about it. The key is to ensure that the kid can continue with the topic in the conversation.

Last year, my son was asked if he had gone for any camp (that was before his camp in Sep). So he was at a loss. Fortunately this year, he managed to cook up something…now I desperately want to know how he fared for his prelim orals.

Not trying to be picky, but just in case some kids end up writing wrong characters in exam, note that it should be 义工, not 益公!

Thanks, I was also thinking I might be wrong to choose that first character.

Can answer never done before right? Then go about saying why didn't and why think it will be good to do community work. The teacher will not penalise if never do community work but want to assess how kids carry on the conversation within the topic. Am I correct?
Funz:
Stumble onto this thread out of curiosity since. But seeing the topic got me :yikes:

Can say never do before. Then say where go time to volunteer, school work oredi so much, exam standard so out of this world, gotta go this and that tuition, even if I want to do volunteer work and have the heart to do it, cannot find the time. I find time to help others, who's going to help me when I fail my exam? So focus on passing exam first, next time when grow up oredi, earn enuf oredi, sick of seeing my bosses black face then I go do charity. 😉

Goodness, this kind of topics will stump the kids. How to relate?
OMG! Mebbe I shouldn't have clicked to read this thread in the first place. Itchy.. and now going :yikes: and then :faint:.

Jeda.. I'm more worried not abt whether or not there was experience with community service done...but the phrase \"community work\" itself! In whatever the language... wow. Now 😓.

Was thinking, maybe we should start a thread call ‘oral / pic conversation topics’

Spot some of the possible & common topics that may come out.
Example :
1. Market
2. Traffic
3. Robbery
4. Community work

At least I can try to get my son to talk…

Robbery may be quite difficult to discuss. What about being stuck in the lift or discuss what can happen in the MRT ?

It seems like the topics for this year Oral is surrounding \"transport system\" & \"kindness deeds\" for many schools. My DD's EL picture discussion is about MRT scene & oral topic is about \"a kind deed\" - sounds familar with the \"community work\". Luckily for us, we spotted this question the night before her oral, and is a breeze for her... For Chinese, she is also tested on \"bus-stop\" scene, related to transport.... so could it be that the hot topic is about MRT this year, and so the school teachers work around this area??? :scratchhead:

You may be right. For chinese oral - pic : carpark scene. Conversation : Something abt neighbourliness. For eng - pic : mrt. Conversation : I think it's something like - Do you like travelling on the mrt?
