Sorry, i tried to line the numbers up nicely but it’s not happening.


Column A: 1, 8, 9, 16
Column B: 2, 7, 10, 15
Column 3, 6, 11, 14
Column 4, 5, 12, 13

Accordingly to the teacher, there should be a formula to arrive at the answer rather easily…

Workings:

2x2=4
3x3=9
4x4=16
5x5=25
6x6=36
7x7=49
8x8=64
9x9=81

When 3 of the combination=115, its the area of each of the square tiles.
That is 9+25+81=115.

Length of biggest square is 9cm
Length of smallest square is 3cm
Ans: 9-3=6
