To be at the podium in olympics, definately needs to train full time. So if anyone has a ds who is a potential medallist, NS is not an issue. We are talking about the most outstanding sportsman who can do Singapore proud at international arena not national sportsmen.

d 2 year NS is definitely a distraction dat breaks a sportsman rhythm n training when one tries to reach d pinnacle of his sports.
For some sports, those 18 -21 age years r critical for further continuous development.

I am certain if deferment if required, the coaches will write a letter to convince our MINDEF on this short window of opportunity to train an excellent sportsman. I am sure they are moving with times as well...

You know ah, if we want to raise champions in sports, we ought to start by looking at our own built. There are certain sports that are simply impossible to break into if you do not have the physique. Take basketball, swimming, for instance.

For Asians they tend to dominate sports like table-tennis, badminton which requires agility, and being smaller-framed do have their advantages here.

I’m sure there are exceptions, but rare.

Or, is it the other way round - it is the training that changes your physique? 50-50, I suppose?

This should go under Kid's Say the Darnest Things, but I thought it more relevant to post here.

I asked DS if he could have a chance to train to be an Olympian, which sport he would choose, and he said swimming and running.

I turned and asked DD, and she said, \"I would just watch Koko.\" šŸ˜†
Then she changed her mind and said, \"Oh, maybe diving\" (she watched the women's syn diving). I asked her why and she said, \"Then I could go to the jacuzzi šŸ˜†
