no lah, leeven. HCI did not just leave it to the kids to build cars. The boys from HCI actually guide them through, using chemicals to build the engine.
I agree with you that the subjects in NUSH is indeed very deep. This is precisely why I discourage my DS to apply for NUSH. DS has high interest in Math, but not really so for Science. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought it's necessary for the child to be equally good in both subjects in order to qualify for NUSH. Since there're more talks on MO, maybe many of us has forgotten the fact that NUSH is not only looking at Math, but also Science. Other than this, it's leadership.
One of my colleague's DS was DSA to NUSH 2 years ago. He did not have any certificate & he's from mainstream. However, he's very out-spoken. My colleague told me that her DS was verbally told that he'll be selected during the camp cos he displayed the leadership skill. -

Personally I am neutral about how many schools kids shall apply for DSA. I have advised my DS before the DSA application started and warned him that the chances for him DSA to RI and HCI are very slim eventhough he got gold for smops and other math olympiad awards. He insisted give it a try and poor mummy has to go through all the hassles of applcation. Parents should know the kids very well, personally I think DHS is a good fit for my DS since he is in a SAP school now and encourage him to give it a try and his math teacher insisted he is good at math, shall try NUSH...... The dsa schools' list became longer and longer. My thinking is \"no regret, at least we tried\". What if my son can make it. Do we always being taught by all the specialists to believe in your child? DS didn't prepare for the gat test or selection test, asked him just enjoy the whole process and tried his best if he can. And managing expectation is another aspect we all learned through this DSA. there are ups and downs, at least now I am more steady and prepared for all the outcomes that would come soon. My DS also learned something through the process, interviews were fun, he claimed, this might be the first interview in his life and he pened down all the funny questions being asked and we laughed together. He also has to embraced the rejection, he knows this is part of the live and he has to move on. These few months I realised DS become more mature, it might be the credit of the DSA appliction process. Saturday will be the DHS intervew, we wish all the kids good luck!

Many parents take DSA like a safety net. But always forgotten what if you DS, DD did very well in PSLE and all of a sudden you found that they can actually go to a top school choice by their aggregate and now they are tied up by CO with another school? Can you imagine the agony?
I hope parents take DSA seriously and when you think you are doing good for the children but it might turn out to become a nightmare. -

DD was interviewed together with a whole batch of Sports Dsa gals for RGS. On Tues, there were 4 groups of 3 girls being interviewed. Heard that today was also reserved for Sports dsa interviews. For DD's sport I believe they are only intending to admit 2 girls under dsa.

What if the child performs worst than the COP of Dunman High ?

What about the school which has already committed to take in the child,
regardless of what his or her PSLE agg score is ( so long eligible for express).
DSA is a 2 way committment, NOT 1 way .....
both sides have to honour it if they have already accepted the CO.
No wonder MOE needs to step in aggressively to halt all these appeals and transfers last year.yolksg:

DSA is certainly good experience for DS, if not apply too many schools.
Before the open houses, DD had a few school in mind, after visiting four schools on Open house day, she already set her heart in one school. It was I to suggest, might as well apply other two, she agreed, with an easy-going manner.
So very often, it is we, parents, too kiasu. That is why we are here!
