Any reviews about Opera Estate school ?
Kindly enlighten about phase 2C supplementary.

Regarding reviews about Opera Estate school , I think you can check it out at Primary School- Parent's Networking Group under Opera Estate School. Good Luck!!!

I used to study in Katong Convent Secondary and most of the girls (except me) are from CHIJ (Katong) and opera estate.

          May I ask:

Is there any process or procedure for waiting list? We were booted out at Phase 2B balloting.
I was told you can only do so after all phases are over ie after Phase 3 and it is up to the Principal and there isn’t any fixed criteria for selection.
Will a school consider granting waiting list even if there wasn’t any official application in Phase 2B or 2C?
          Thanks.

Thank you for your feedback friends…

As i dont have much of choice left i think i will mostly go ahead with Opera Estate… Could anyone of you highlight how does 2C supplementary works? there are chances of balloting in 2c supp too?
Also i was looking at Stamford primary school… which is far from my place but have many seats available… any idea how is this school? what are my chances of getting seat if i m far from this school.
which school is better opera or stamford?

am relieved that we got my dd got a place at CHIJ OQLP Phase 2C without having to "take slots" from more deserving Singaporeans.

as a 12 yr Permanent Resident, I understand SC’s predicament, so I dont ask for more than what we are entitled.

there is still 20 slots left at CHIJ OQLP by the way, so no more balloting…

                hi janam,

sorry about your predicament… if CHIJ OQLP is oversuscribed this year… we would have been in the same predicament… However, i will leave the other parents to answer your question as I am also uninitiated …

Phase 2C Supplementary is the same selection process just that it is in another phase. Again if applications exceeds available quota, the SC priority kicks in.

Bear in mind that the distance formulae is the same. 1Km, 1-2km & more than 2km still remain.

                    Hi Janam,

The good news is Opera Estate was not full last year even after phase 3.

As for the school? Ironically, OE’s higher chinese distinction rate last year was 60%, which is higher than even Taonan. Their top student scored 268, which was good enough to beat all of the students from Taonan’s P6A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and L. Only classes 6I (top 276), JK (271, 272) and M (269) had students who scored higher. Bear in mind that OE is not a GEP school.

I predict that in 6 years or so, some of the less popular schools will produce very interesting PSLE results because these are the only schools highly motivated PRs and foreigners can get into.

Just saw Forum discussion on Asiaone on

S'poreans to get priority for P1 places during balloting: MOE

                      http://forums.asiaone.com/showthread.php?t=48358

                      See what the forummers said....

After reading some of the posts there, i think we hv more constructive and meaning discussions here. SC or PR or FT, we are parents of the next generation, we ought to set good examples and be responsible for the words we use. :lovesite:

Kudos to Chief and team! :udaman: :udaman:

Btw, my girl got into IJ Katong (no need to ballot, no need for heartaches nor sweaty palms!)

                      :celebrate:

Kiasu parents forum definitely have more constructive discussion.

Otherwise, I won't be posting here instead of there.

I put in the link to share what some other forummers think of the system (esp those not affected by the change)

:lovesite: too! and I like this post over there....

We should all cry out loud \"A Singaporean Singapore\"
Sure this is a step in the right direction finally BUT just setting the priorities right for primary one intake is not enough what about the almost equal and infact favorable treatment of foreigners in secondary, JC, poly and Uni especially in Unis where locals are deprived of place in choice courses and these space allocated to foreigners using the argument that foreigners will help raise standards (sure this argument do carry some logic but look at the numbers of foreigners and the terms offered to them and look at their behavior Sun Xu is a classic example).

And beyond MOE there are a ton of inequalities favoring foreigners and FTs which are waiting to be corrected. Singaporeans cannot let up on this until the close to 3,000,000 FTs become perhaps 300,000.

I don't understand why Singaporeans think that PR and foreigner are better than them, we are also equally talented, except that they try to find the resources and they are ready to spend the money to any extent, why not we also do the same instead of spending time for some other entertainments, outing etc, etc we will spend and invest time and money for our children future, so that in due time there will be more and more talented Singaporeans to prove
